Many times in life we feel abandoned and unwanted and like those feelings will never release their grip on us. Catherine Carrigan's new book Unlimited Intuition Now charts a path out of those feelings by showing us that we are not alone, because we can use our intuition to connect us to the ultimate source of knowledge and guidance in the universe. We literally do not have to walk alone. We have a wise and loving friend ready to accompany us on every step of our journey. After reading this book I asked myself how I make important decisions. The disappointing answer is that I weigh my options logically and choose whichever course of action I conclude is most rational. This means I'm letting my egocentric, thinking mind make almost all my important decisions. After reading Catherine's book, that method now sounds insane to me. I've denied and suppressed my intuition all my life, despite friends telling me what strong intuition I have. Suddenly I realize that what I have been blocking is my access to universal wisdom. Traditional education teaches us to trust accumulated knowledge, administered by the ego, but never lets on that information acquired by the mind can never compare to the infinite reservoir of universal knowledge that is with us from birth. We get to choose whether to rely primarily on the limited and objective knowledge we can acquire or the limitless wisdom of the universe that is given with love to all who open to it. Unlimited Intuition Now will help you find and fulfill your life's purpose by helping you make good choices all along the way. Trust your intuition to get you there.

I initially purchased this book on Audible, but there is so much that I wanted to refer back to that I purchased the hard copy for my library. The chapters are short, but informative. Makes it easy to find what you're looking for quickly and to utilize the information more readily. Enjoy!

Very well-written offering a concise understanding of intuition and how it can become a fruitful part of our daily life. The author provides a series of ways to not only come into our own intuition but also how to ask, in both affirmation and prayer, for ways to seek quality of life in all that we do.

Unlimited Intuition...is quite a Good Surprise for me... helping me to... overcome... my struggles to unlock my intuition. Catherine Carrigan's wonderful exercises & practices along with the prays she provides... really makes... learning her method...some thing special *****

This is a wonderful book with usable techniques/exercises for everyone.

According to author Catherine Carrigan's new book, Unlimited Intuiton NOW, by tapping into our intution we can control many aspects of our lives including renewed energy, self-esteem, confidence, better health, better relationships and a greater sense of well-being. She teaches us how to become more aware of our intution and how to harness the power of it. With exercises and advice in each chapter, Catherine guides the reader on focus, attention, mindfulness and how to achieve these. A most valuable contribution to natural healing. Brava, Catherine!

A helpful book. I received as a gift and enjoyed the writer's message. Recommended.

This book could have been so much more. What an important and currently pressing topic Alex Kotlowitz chose to write about. The homicide and violent crime rate in Chicago is staggering. Kotlowitz says that in the past 20 years in Chicago, 14,033 people have been killed and roughly 60,000 have been wounded by gunfire. The vast majority of the killings happen in a small space in Chicago--but the violence has been spreading out all over the city. National and regional papers report of the killings daily.I've read another book by Kotlowitz and have found him to be a very gifted writer. He's an artist with words. He has a very smooth writing style and uses words to paint pictures in a way that few others can. I know little about what's going on in Chicago, so I was excited to learn more--especially through the writing of Kotlowitz. But this book felt flat.During a summer in Chicago, Kotlowitz chronicles the life of African American male teenagers and some men past their prime previously involved in gang violence. In only a few months, we learn of many gruesome murders and lives ruined by the violence.Kotlowitz seems to blame the failures of his main characters on the society that they've grown up in. Even when adopted out and moved to the suburbs, Kotlowitz's characters return to a life of crime. It's almost, as if, the main characters in the book are destined to kill others. Robbing people seems to be in their blood and hurting others seems to be the fault of the character's lapse of judgment, society, or something else. But Kotlowitz doesn't seem to rest blame in the murderer or perpetrator himself. The murderer or perpetrator is portrayed as a victim and his family as victims too.By the way--why aren't women included as characters in this book? Do they not perpetrate the violent crime? If they don't, then why not?The book is entirely predictable. In fact, it's so predictable that it's absurd. We're meant to see that the murders in jail actually are good people in the wrong place at the wrong time. Maybe that's true. I don't know. But it's hard to believe that every murderer followed in the book has a good heart and is rather blameless. I would have liked to know more about the character's upbringing, their experiences in school, and the rest of their life. Two paragraphs--or even two pages--about any of these topics doesn't suffice. The violence in Chicago results from complex matters and it would have been nice for Kotlowitz to consider and develop each of the potential causes for the high crime rate. Glossing over the lives of the main characters and their families doesn't serve the topic justice.Perhaps it's worthwhile to read a few chapters of this book. But if you want to learn more about what's going on in Chicago, I'd suggest reading another source.

Excellent book on the effects of violence in Chicago. Generally each chapter introduces us to a new person/family touched by violence (either losing a family member to violence or having a family member commit violence or committing violence themselves and trying to come to terms with what they've done) though there are a few people who have several chapters devoted to their stories (again dealing with violence that they've witnessed, experienced, or committed).Kotlowitz writes with powerful prose, really showing the humanity of these people and the very challenging lives they lead and often horrific experiences they, well, experiences. Some people might say Kotlowitz is making excuses for bad behavior, but I think he is really showing the societal factors that surround people. So many children randomly killed, so many children/young people killing or hurting others, so many petty squabbles escalating into death. Kotlowitz shows how people struggle with being defined or stereotyped as gangbangers or drug dealers--the assumptions mothers deal with when a child is killed that "he must have been in a gang or dealing drugs." Sometimes they were, sometimes not. Either way the person gone was still a person.Though some of the people profiled make it, there aren't many happy endings in the book. Some seem promising. Some are very sad. It just felt like a gut punch to me, reading about the things people live with and through. I can't imagine having the strength to endure. Just an excellent book. It would be hard to read this and still dismiss Chicago's violence as just faceless black on black crime (or whatever talking point it is today) that "those people" need to deal with (or as a justification to treat them all like animals and criminals.) These are people struggling with poverty, economic depression in their neighborhoods, mass incarceration, death, and still most manage to keep on living, despite the loss and sadness. I can't recommend it enough.

Difficult book to review because Alex Kotlowitz is an amazing reporter of urban life and he once again brings empathy and closeness to American cities...but I never quite connected with it. I have read "There Are No Children Here," and that's a classic of the type.Maybe it's empathy overload, or just being so depressed by it all, but I felt like this could have been a 20K magazine article and accomplished the same thing. Here, I just felt overwhelmed and sad. I put it aside and then didn't come back to it for days, and found myself skimming and forgetting where I was. So that's all the downside. The "up" is that these are powerful, meaningful stories of people in dire situations - and many of them made bad choices and don't deserve much sympathy. But, I can't help but feel shame and regret for how this country has let all this happen without ever coming up with even a tepid effort at a solution. This is a powerful book despite my personal disconnect.

The victims of crime aren't the only victims of "the system".In his years of documenting "inner city" Chicago, Alex Kotlowitz has met many people. Here he chronicles the summer of 2013 by ticking off the days, with an account of the life of one individual or family, mostly colored by their experiences with the criminal justice system and with gang culture.Although the events described are more than five years past, anyone without their own experience with poverty or helping those in poverty would do well to read "An American Summer". Life in the "inner city" can be toxic, and anyone who votes should be thinking about how our government often rewards prosecutors and others who punish some of the victims and how, if this treatment leads to hopelessness and recidivism, we're not even reducing crime as a result.

I love Sci-Fi stories and this story lived up to my expectations.

Really enjoyed the interactions between Torri and Kai. There was good history between the characters and I liked the way it was brought out in flashbacks and reminiscing. Already bought the next two.

I don’t read as much Sci-fi as I used to, and hardly ever any Lesbian Sci-fi. I find the desire to build a new and different world or landscape can be so consuming to the author that I lose the point of the tale. Or the world is just too unbelievable for me to let go and enjoy myself without stopping and saying “What? What the hell is that suppose to be?”Happily this was not a problem I came across while reading “Friends in High Places.” The world could easily be seen as the future. None of the inventions or machinery were too far-fetched that I had to stop. Side bar- I really liked Marquette’s imagining of what sex toys will be like. Kinda looking forward to those…Anyway, Torri is the Captain of the Far Seek with a crew that did remind me of Firefly and Captain Malcolm. They are in Newburg to steal and smuggle out some rare and valuable opals from ancient earth. Kai is Torri's greatest weakness and naturally her secret love. She is a Captain in the Coalition and is stationed in Newburg as an anti-smuggling specialist. When the Coalition receives a tip-off about the imminent heist, they increase security in the region and Torri and her Crew's assignment seems almost impossible to pull off. These two characters, Torri and Kai are very well developed and you do find yourself growing attached, at least I did. I would date Torri in a heartbeat! Ahem, so even though I am not a fan of the “Oh I wish she were here...we could have been...” type stories, this still worked for me. What goes from there is fun, exciting and even romantic. The story moved along well and held my interest throughout.I’m not only looking forward to more Torri and more of the Far Seek Chronicles, I’m looking forward to investigating other stories written by Andi Marquette.

Thank you Dirt Road Books for sending me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Review is also posted to GoodReads as Jess Rockeman.I didn't know anything about this book or the author before receiving a copy from Dirt Road Books for review. I'm a huge fan of this new publisher--ever since they opened, they've been wonderful to their fans, and since both this author (Andi Marquette) and another DRB author, Jove Belle, are involved in the amazing Lesbian Talk Show podcasts, there's such a wonderful feeling of lesbian/WLW solidarity in both the writing and readership. While I enjoy science fiction and lesfic, I've actually not read a ton of sci-fi lesfic. I know it's a popular subgenre, especially after many serial numbers were filed off Janeway/Seven of Nine fanfics in the late 90s, but I've always been drawn to more contemporary/modern lesfic stories. This book reminded me a lot of The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers, which I really enjoyed, which in turn reminded me of Firefly, which I enjoyed less. Andi Marquette's concise, practiced prose takes the sprawling themes of those good space westerns of old to create a thick, dense, involved story that makes you fall hard for a romance for the ages. This isn't an easy, lazy read. If you're looking for a flighty romance, this one isn't for you. And even if you aren't a lesfic reader, this book will easily appeal to the most die-hard sci-fi junkies.Torri, our main character and fearless leader of the Far Seek, is a little bit of a trader and a little bit of an outlaw, trying her best to shed the remainders of the Coalition bureaucracy she was raised in. When she finds herself embroiled in a tense smuggling operation with a lot of potential to go sideways, she finds herself face-to-face with Coalition Captain Kai Tinsdale, Torri's old bunkmate from the Academy and her first real love. We're left with a colorful cast of morally ambiguous characters whose motivations aren't always clear, and we trust Torri to navigate this world with us along for the ride. This story combines sci-fi with a heist story, erotica with character studies, space opera with romance. It's a long read that takes you down many paths. The world is rich and well-built, familiar without being overdone. I can't think of a world in all the sci-fi books I've read or TV shows I've watched that closely mirrors it, though Defiance would be a great match (and it also came years after this book). Marquette trusts her readers enough to not over-explain sci-fi concepts or invented words, but she also details much of the world's history and military conflicts for context. The heavy romance between Kai and Torri is absolutely heartbreaking. It's a well-done romance that works perfectly within the plot itself.I wish there was a little more development of Torri's Far Seek crew, especially since the ending, while absolutely perfect, relies heavily on us seeing the crew as family-of-choice. I wanted a little more involvement from Jann, Saryl, and their new navigator. I also won't lie and say I was able to closely follow every plot thread, but the story itself was contained enough to keep my interest.I definitely recommend this one to anyone who is looking for a lesbian-centric sci-fi book that doesn't cut any corners or take any easy routes.

The Dirt Road Books’ blurb doesn’t do justice for what the reader is in for from this novel by Andi Marquette. Here’s what you get; character-driven drama with intrigue between Torri and Kai, two people who want to be together but their positions prevent it. I would have liked to get more from Kai’s perspective on their shared history but I suspect this is going to come out in the next installment. Torrie’s perspective on their shared past was noteworthy in that she mixed her interactions with Kai with her lessons she learned while in the academy. This feature also worked well in explaining her motivations and fears. The author also does a really good job at world building but I wanted more on the history of Newburg and I’m hoping she’ll provide more of it in the coming works. Second string characters Saryl and Jindor are interesting, leaving me wanting more specifically Jindor’s motivations towards Torri. Overall, a good space opera beginning. I’m looking forward to future installments.I was given this ARC by Dirt Road Books in return for an honest review.
