It contains many creative ways to add the oil into the diet using a variety of delicious recipes.Many people who live in non-coconut-growing regions of the world mistakenly think of coconut as just an ingredient for making desserts and sweets. Coconut, however, is very versatile and can be used in a variety of ways other than desserts.How to Choose a Good CoconutFresh coconuts are available at most grocery stores, health food stores, and Asian markets. The quality of fresh coconuts varies greatly even in the same store. The age of the coconuts and how they are handled greatly affects quality. Coconuts that have been battered around and cracked spoil very quickly. Once a crack occurs in the shell, mold quickly develops inside. Most coconuts are shipped long distances over extended periods of time. You have no way of telling how old they are when you buy them. The older they are, the more likely they are to be moldy.You can identify mold when you break open the coconut and see yellow or brown coloring in the meat, or smell an off odor. Sometimes you can smell mold on the outside of the coconut before breaking it open.When choosing a fresh coconut, look for one without any cracks. If the coconut is damp or has wet spots, it means the shell is cracked and the coconut water is leaking. Shake the coconut to detect the swishing sound of the coconut water. If there is little or no water in the coconut, it is old or cracked. Avoid those with white spots, particularly around the “eyes.” The white is mold that has probably developed from water leaking from a tiny crack.How to Open a CoconutTo open a coconut, first puncture two of the “eyes” and drain the water. Coconuts have three eyes. One of the eyes is soft and very easy to puncture; the other two are a bit more difficult. I use an ice pick. You may also use a hammer and nail. After draining the liquid, hold the coconut securely on a hard surface and hit it with a hammer. Coconut shells are very hard, so you will need to put some force into it.Another way to crack a coconut shell is to place the coconut on a rimmed baking sheet and heat it in the oven for 20 minutes at 400ºF (200ºC). After it is heated, tap the coconut all over to loosen the meat, then crack it with a hammer.Break the shell up into several pieces. With a table knife, you can pry the meat off the shell. The meat will have a brown membrane or skin on it where it was in contact with the shell. You can trim this off with a vegetable peeler, but it is safe to eat with this membrane attached. If you see any brown or yellow discoloration in the white meat, it is mold. Small patches of mold can be cut off and discarded. Most coconuts will have a spot or two. If a lot of discoloration is present, throw the whole thing away.And one of my favorite dinner recipes:Thai Coconut Shrimp and Noodles ©8 ounces (38 g) noodles3 tablespoons (45 ml) coconut oil1 cup (160 g) chopped onion2 tablespoons (30 g) seeded and chopped green chili peppers4 cloves garlic, minced1 tablespoon (8 g) flour1 can (14 ounces/400 ml) coconut milk2 tablespoons (30 ml) fish sauce½ pound (226 g) shrimp, peeled and deveined2 tablespoons (2 g) finely chopped fresh cilantroPrepare the noodles according to the package directions; drain and set aside. (Traditionally rice noodles are most commonly used in Thai cooking, but you can use any type of noodle you like.) In a large skillet, heat the coconut oil over medium heat. Add the onion and sauté for about 6 minutes, until tender. Add the green chili, garlic, and flour and continue to cook, stirring frequently, for 3 minutes. Stir in the coconut milk and fish sauce and simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, for about 8 minutes, until the sauce thickens. Add the shrimp and cilantro and continue to simmer until the shrimp is cooked, 3 to 4 minutes. Remove from the heat and fold in the noodles until well coated with sauce. Serve hot.Serves 2 to 3

As I am a Pacific Islander, born in Fiji, grew up using coconuts, (family owned a coconut plantation) - oils, milk, water etc., almost every day of my life, I think Bruce Fife's Coconut Miracle Cookbook is excellent.!

Uses wheat flour, sugar, corn, cornstarch, soy sauce, potatoes, sucanat, brown sugar, honey, bananas, rice, almonds and walnuts (both are known to lower men's testosterone.), Legumes (Beans, green beans, peas, etc.). creamy cheese sauces. Calls for linguine noodles, pastry shells, lasagna noodles, etc., etc.. Anyone that has researched diligently knows that all of the ingredients mentioned here are not healthy for one reason or another.... and this guy is supposed to be a Naturopathic Doctor; give me a break! Thought his first book was informational; but as a cookbook for "Coconut, thought this was a flop. Many that are much better are available.

I loved all the recipes, I'd like to learn some raw coconut recipes. I'll buy another book, I was satisfied with the book!

I've used this cookbook many, many times since I've gotten it. Recipes are simple and very tasty, I always have the ingredients.

Excellent info and recipes! ALL of us should be finding more ways to incorporate coconut oil into our daily lives!

Since coconut is the new food trend my husband and I have been using it a lot. This book is filled with information on how it works and how best to use it in your food. And it makes the food taste better.

I can't critique this book without using some of the recipes. I generally read through a cookbook first before I use any recipes. However, it seems all inclusive for using all coconut products, from flour to milk, to sugar to grated coconut. There are extensive writings in the beginning about coconut products and their benefits, how to integrate them into your diet, etc. Looking forward to the macaroon cookies!

I tried a couple of recipes they tasted great. I didn't tell my husband what was in it and he really liked it also. Thumbs up

I purchased my OM-D E-M1 Mark II in November, 2017. Being new to mirrorless, being my first Olympus and discovering how complicated the EM-1 MII is I checked to see if Darrell Young had written an instruction book for it. I was familiar with his books having purchased several of his Nikon Camera books in the past 15 years before I sold all Nikon gear and switched entirely to the OM-D E-M1 Mark II. His books have always been the most thorough and easiest to understand of any I’ve found. At that time he had not completed the Em1 Mark II book.While waiting for Darrell’s book I looked for other sources. I found many. Some good to very good but incomplete or unclear in their instructions. Some were not so good or just plain wrong in the information they gave. Using the better ones and by my own trial and error I gradually learned more about using this camera. I got to the point where I could set it up and take decent photos but sometimes got lost in the menu system and had to do a complete reset of the camera to where it was when it came out of the factory. A couple of times I even confused the camera enough to cause it to freeze up. Actually, not a freeze-up. I just didn’t know how to get from where I was to where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do. (Reset again!)Even with all my looking I came up with questions I could not find answers for. First thing I did after finally receiving Darrell’s book was look for those answers and I found them. Darrell’s book is 600 pages. It has to be that long to be complete. The camera is a computer and Like a computer system there is usually more than one way to do what you are wanting to do. Remember that just because the camera will do it and the book tells you how it doesn’t necessarily mean you will want to be able to do it on your camera. You will eventually get to where you have the camera set up the way you want it. Darrell’s book makes that much easier.I also recommend the Kindle version of this book. It can be saved to your cell phone and when in the field if a question comes up you can find an answer. The Kindle version of the book can also be saved to your desktop computer using the Kindle app. I would suggest you also read the review by Mr. Conrad J. Obregon.I’ve found that low ratings of books about this camera often come from those who don’t have the experience needed to operate a camera as complicated as this one.

Took Forever Darrell, What Kept Ya?? (LOL)Again, another "Long Awaited" book penned by non other than Darrell Young, "The Master of The Light and the equipment we use to capture it!" I just received this book, 14 months after ordering it! OMG, I almost gave up on it ever being published but I am very thankful I hung in there. To early for a full detailed review but if Darrell took this long to complete it, I am sure he covered every detail possible for the use of a very complex camera. So complex, Olympus could learn from Darrell's skill, talents, his ability to use the American English Language to convey the use and functions of the OMD EM1 MkII... After a very fast brush through I can say that this book has been worth the wait and I will return to complete a detailed review of this very extensive Rendition. I anticipate that I will learn much, once again as I have in the past using his books, "Best Ever!"Thanks Darrell for getting this done, I Need It Badly... LOL!

This book is an incredible feat of technical information. Author really put his heart and soul into creating something of great value and depth. I have both the hard copy and the Kindle. The Kindle version is great because of all the hyperlinks.

Good resource . If you own and OMD EMI-II. You know how complex this camera can seem. The menus system is not only lengthy but also deep. Darrell provides an excellent navigation through the camera. It would take years to navigate and learn this camera completely, this book will help you get there fast. The book is well written, organized in a simple, logical manner and easy to understand. You have two options, fight with the sad Manuel from Olympus or jump start your process with this book. Highly recommend it

An excellent book for a complicated,extremely configurable camera.The topics are well organized and so it's an easy reference book.I've had the camera over a year and am learning about features I was not aware of.In summary kind of a treasure map to the camera settings.

I am a first-time Olympus owner, and have a Pen-F rather than an E-M1 Mark II. My hopes were that the book would focus on camera firmware menus, that the menus of both cameras would be similar, and that because of the book’s recent release (June 8, 2018) it would reasonably reflect the current firmware. These hopes were realized and I am very happy I purchased the book.Before acquiring the Pen-F, I had heard that Olympus firmware menus could be a bit challenging, and instruction manuals (whatever the manufacturer) can be somewhat cryptic. Here, both proved true. I cannot really fault the Pen-F instruction manual – it’s 188 pages and covers the camera and menus reasonably adequately. But although it led me through the menus, it often left me wondering how the selections would impact actual shooting and photographs. At 618 pages (including the Table of Contents and Control Location Reference at the front of the book), Mr. Young’s book bridges this gap. In doing so, it includes many color figures and settings recommendations. I can honestly say it has been of material assistance, providing me sufficient grounding in the menus to take the next step – out to the field for practice, practice, practice . . .

If you really want to get to know your EM-I Mark II you NEED this book. It will take you through all of the hundreds of menu choices with easy to understand explanations. I didn't give it 5 stars because some of the pictures in the book are a bit too small and sometimes hard to see. The book is a veritable encyclopedia of the EM-I Mark II. It will answer any and all questions regarding the operating system of this fantastic camera.

Bi-specific antibodies can engage multiple tumor targets simultaneously, or can redirect lymphocytes to attack tumor cells. The antigen-binding domains within antibodies can be spliced onto cell stimulatory domains and transduced into T cells or NK cells, creating remarkable tumor-specific cellular therapeutics (CAR-T, CAR-NK). Beyond antibody-based therapies there are highly diverse and differentiated technology tool kits being applied to immunotherapy. Small molecule drugs are being developed to attack the tumor microenvironment, novel tumor vaccine approaches are showing great promise, patient lymphocytes are being isolated, expanded and reintroduced to patients, gene-editing techniques are becoming widely deployed, and a vast number of new tumor targets, and mutated tumor proteins (neoantigens), are being discovered. The past decade has seen unprecedented success in the treatment of diverse cancers. The authors of this volume have been asked to not only review progress to date, but importantly, to look ahead, and anticipate the evolution of cancer treatment across diverse Immune Therapeutic approaches. Anyone who has seen the documentary "Into Great Silence" will enjoy this book, too. The movie introduced me to the Carthusians and I have subsequently read a number of books by or about them. This is written by a priest as a journal - or rather letters - to his acquaintances. I enjoyed it. I wish he had more entries on the way they celebrate Mass and more about their contemplative lifestyle. Other than that I recommend the book and the photographs are very cool!

I liked every page of this book. The author described men who are truly extraordinarily ordinary, men of solitude who are seeking to encounter God in silence and are united with Jesus in His solitude in the desert. I would recommend this book to any souls who are drawn (aspire) to encounter God in solitude & silence.

A real glimpse in the life of the Carthusian Monks. It is good to know that there is such a place - where they accept outsiders, to just quiet yourself and your mind. To all people who are searching for peace and silence, get this book.

An easy read and very personable report of time spent at one of the oldest Charterhouses in Europe, about what one would expect out of a series of letters to family and friends. Particularly enjoyable are the many photos that accompany the text. The author chose to remain anonymous.

I appreciate the beautiful pictures as well as letters.

I was disappointed with this book because it gave a description of some of the exterior aspects of Carthusian life and said very little about the interior life of growth in the Spirit.

Great seller! The content was what I expected.
