I'm kinda offended that the book doesn't include the Mosrite guitar--especially The Ventures Model Mosrite. From the '60s to this day, The Ventures remain popular. These guitars now sell for $4000-$6000 on eBay and retail. THE PREMISE of this book is stated in the amazon description: "In this spectacular full-color deluxe volume, Guitar Aficionado magazine--today's preeminent luxury guitar publication--presents THE WORLD'S MOST EPIC GUITARS, the stories behind them, and the people who own them." (And note that it is presented by "Guitar Aficionado Magazine", notably NOT entitled "Famous Guitar Owners Magazine".).UPDATE: The title of the book is "The Most Famous, Rare, and Valuable Guitars in the World". To not include a guitar that is revered, considered a collector's item, and sells for $4000-$5000 is a serious failure of this book and so it deserves ONE STAR. Instead, it is really a book about FAMOUS people and their guitars, NOT "The Most Famous, Rare, and Valuable Guitars in the World". if you are truly a person that loves guitars and the music that comes from them . you need to have this book. I thought as fan of guitar I might place this book on the coffee table to have too look at ever now and than. Once i open the book couldn't take my hands off for 4 days . Just keep going thru the collection that these people had and just couldn't but it down.

This book is beautiful! Well written with stunning photographs of some of the iconic guitars of our time. I bought it as a Christmaspresent for my nephew who is learning to play and is constantly looking at guitars on his computer... I can't wait to see his facewhen he gets it. Not to nitpick but what is up with the section on James Hetfield? There are two pages of text devoted to hislove of custom automobiles and barely any mention of the guitars on display in the book. I for one would have loved to hearthe story behind the guitars. Other than that, I would recommend this book to anyone who loves the six-string!

This book has beautiful photographs and good narrative discussing each guitar. It is of high quality, well put together and has gold leaf on the page edges which adds to it's nice design. I bought this for my husband and he loves it. This book is great for any guitar lover and would look great on a coffee table.

Nice in-depth look into some great guitars.Very well written with great photography.The "caretakers" of these instruments were very kind to open up for these interviews and photo sessions,

Bought for a client for holiday gift. He loved it. Professional man who loves music and plays in clubs. When it arrived, the cover was marked with black marks. I was able to get them off with some cleaner but it was annoying to receive a dirty item.

It is very well produced. It's not five star because some of the guitar collections, in the beginning of the book, have been featured in the magazine already. Feel this is a bit of a 'cheat' since the recipient has already read mags cover to cover and keeps them all. Other than that, certainly worth the price.

Super collectible coffee table book. I was fortunate to purchase this book before the price took off. Great photography coupled with the stories behind some very notable guitars and guitar collections. A must read for any guitarist.

I started building independent channel partner networks in 1986. Coming from a small domestic market I was forced to build international channel partner networks very early in the lifecycle of the companies where I was responsible for revenue generation and I also had to do it with very limited resources. I learned that you do not have to be big to be smart. Even small software companies can build powerful independent channel partner networks over time if they understand some fundamental business principles.From 1997 to 2001 I was responsible for Damgaard's activities in the German speaking markets and in this capacity I had the unique experience of introducing and building the channel for AXAPTA (now Microsoft Dynamics AX) in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. After the merger with Navision I was made responsible for our joint operations in Central Europe.I left Navision in 2001 to start my own business and in 2003 I acquired a major share of a Microsoft Dynamics AX reseller and held the position as CEO of the company.Â In this capacity I had intimate insight into the daily life of a value added reseller of a product that I was previously responsible for launching to independent channel partners in the German speaking markets. Having served on both sides of the table helped me to deepen my understanding of the principal/partner relationship and the completely different businesses that they run.Since 2007 I have been working as a management consultant and workshop facilitator helping clients in the software industry with global growth including building networks of independent channel partners. However, as a management consultant I can only serve a few clients at a time.With this book I hope I can help many more software companies around the world make the right choices on how best to serve their customers and grow their global market share, when they apply the indirect go-to-market approach.

We needed inspiration to handle some of the channel sales challenges in our sales department and found the inspiration and guidelines in the book. I can highly recommend the book for all in the IT industry dealing with channel sales.Only issue is that the illustrations in the paperback edition is a bit blury.

As someone who has worked in channel sales for many years and now oversees a channel program in the technology field, I found this book enormously helpful. It is easy to read while also laying out very clearly the how to of recruiting, managing, enabling, and growing a successful channel network. I have taken many of the lessons learned from this book and saw immediate results with my company. If you work in channel sales, either as an individual contributor or as a manager, I highly recommend you buy this book and commit every page to memory!

To me this book was much more than just a "how to" for building partner channels. It's about how to grow and scale for software companies. What some companies do to grow to get to one stage isn't what will allow them to grow to the next stage. The book has started a large discussion in my company on who we are, what is our model and how do we grow to the next stage. It was a vital discussion that needed to happen and can only help the company now.That said, the "how to" parts, if you create a partner channel strategy, are incredibly helpful and insightful as well. It's just that instead of throwing them at you and telling you that now you can make a million dollars or euros, you start from a point where you can decide for your company what strategy would work best.

Excellent manual covering how channel sales is done. I highly recommend this book to anyone engaged with the channel sales model.

I used the book to propose using my company as as a channel partner to a large SAAS company. Based on knowledge gained from the book, we were successful in receiving agreement to our proposal as their first channel partner which was not in their current business model as in-house B2B sales only.

Hans "Building Successful Partner Channels" is an excellent read offering terrific perspective for anyone interested in growing their indirect channel in software. As the Channel evolves this book offers terrific perspective along with a blueprint for how to build a channel from the ground up!

The book is well written, simple and easy to navigate and at the same time illustrative and actionable. I would recommend this book to anyone either running a channel or in the midst of creating one, especially in the It industry. I love that Hans writes this book about the topic and does not spent too much time on fancy text, stating the same things as many business books do. I have never done any underwater photography before but when I got the chance to snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef, I decided to dip my foot in the water and record some sea life. The book really helped with the basics of getting the photos and with post production. I came away with photos I was happy with. The only problem was the sea temperature which meant I couldn't spend as much time in the water as I would have liked.

Good place to start if you are considering a new hobby of underwater photography. After reading this, I went in another direction, but this was interesting and helpful.

Extremley easy to read. Has lots of pictures demonstrating the effects of f-stops, ISO speed, and aperture in UW photography. Good guide for developing UW photography techniques. Reading it a second time as we speak. Highly recommended for beginner through advanced photographer.

A basic book that is very good for beginners. If you are experienced there are a few good tips, etc. but nothing that you probably don't know or haven't experienced.

This is a very good book! the book is very easy to follow with detail explanation and good examples. i finished this book before my last diving trip, and brought home beautiful photos form the trip. just bought another one for my diver friend.

Very helpful for beginners but also great for advanced photographers. Maria Munn is also good at writing and it makes for an interesting book.

Suprisingly well written . Interesting backstory. If you surf & know anything about big wave surfing , you'll really like this book. It doesn't tell you tons you don't know about the likes of Parsons, Long, Noll, Laird,Kalamala, Mel, Slater , Flame , Brown et.al but the data Dixon shared on this once far-out ,exclusive-access-only , mother-of-all-secret breaks that sits approx 100 nautical miles West/SW of San Diego is extremely interesting. The history of Bishop Rock alone is great reading. Add in these modern gladiator tales of Twiggy Baker or Mike Parsons or Greg Long losing bowel control out on this monster in middle of open ocean to the historical information & you get a winning book. Highly recommended.

I just finished reading Ghost wave and I must tell you that I am disappointedâ€¦â€¦..that itâ€™s FINISHED. What the hell am I to do now? I certainly donâ€™t expect a Ghost Wave 2 in 3D. I was absolutely riveted and this is the only time I was content when the doctor or dentist was late for my appointment. I carried that book everywhere and in the mornings often almost spooned mouthfuls of cereal into my ear. I shed tears in front of my family when I read out loud of Pete Daviâ€™s tragic and last paddled into shore. We cracked up from the ranting of Long and Twiggs as they bobbed among 60 to 70 ft ft waves, â€œI say this is my ski and you can get #$%#@â€.I paused literally spooked to turn the page as you gave a spectacular account of the January 4th Cortez session. My eyes were wide open from Captain Mac Rae's maritime journeys to page 242. You brought me close to the awesomeness Mr. Dixon. The Awesomeness of natureâ€™s deep power and the power of â€˜menâ€. I wonâ€™t say you should be proud because I know you are. â€¦and you should be. THANK YOU CHRIS DIXON for the wonderful work of creative insight. PS. If you ever write about K2 or Everest or anything else that is watery I WILL READ IT.

Dixon's obvious access and established trust with these modern day Ahab's helps reveal the complexity of their motivations that cannot easily be dismissed as simply adrenaline fueled insanity. Chris gets beyond the superficial bravado typically expressed by extreme athletes and shares the genuine fear and concerns created by their passion.

All my life I've been a student of surf culture and related topics. I've picked up every book I could find on the topic and made a few piss poor attempts at mastering the longboard, (Think bear on a bike in the circus) needless to say, there's a reason why I'm landlocked in West Virginia. Big Wave surfing has always been a interest of mine and up until a few years ago, printed subject matter was a bit hard to come by. Ghost Wave by Chris Dixon is without a doubt, the best big wave book I've read yet. It captured me on three levels, surfing, the science of rogue waves and it was character written so well, I felt as though I was there with everyone mentioned in the book.Ghost Wave would make an incredible documentary film or even an action film based on these events. This book will stay in your personal library. You will want to re-read it over and over. You may, as I did, research the events and people in the book to entertain and educate yourself on the topic of Big Waves. I look forward to Chris Dixon's next book whatever it maybe, I'll buy it. I love a good surf read, but have discovered it to be a narrow genre. Didn't take reading too many books to realize that there are a small number of legendary accounts that get retold in several books (Mark Foo drowning at Mavs, Laird & Brett Lickle's disaster in Maui, etc). Most of these get re-told here. If you've never read them before, they're fun, but otherwise it feels a bit like filler.The highlight is a focus on Cortes Bank and there are some pretty mindblowing descriptions of a pretty amazing place. Makes me want to go out and take a look, though I have no desire to be anywhere near a surfboard when I do. There's a neat recounting of seafaring history and some of the disasters and near-misses out at Bishop Rock, though the imagined expedition of coastal indians going to visit it seems a bit of a stretch.Read it and enjoyed it. Not one that I would avidly recommend unless you're a die-hard surfer.

The book gives a history of the discovery and surfing of the giant waves on Cortes Bank which is 100-miles out in the ocean off San Diego. Cortes Bank rises suddenly from the deep ocean to within 30-feet of the surface. When big wind waves sweep in from the North Pacific, waves with 20 to 30-second periods and heights of 25 feet or more in the open ocean, the observed breaking waves have been 100-feet high or greater. Surfers have been able to ride 50 to 80 foot waves with the help of being towed in by jet skis. As the wave period gets longer, the waves move faster, up to 60 miles per hour.The book also covers other big wave spots such as Jaws in Hawaii and Mavericks in Northern California, and gives a lot of surfing history. It is well written and keeps the reader on the edge of his/her chair.

I realize this book was published 7 years ago and public access and ownership changes with time. I was hoping this book was going to be a good resource for off road trips. Unfortunately, I did not find it to be so in February 2017, specially; for Site 91 (Gleeson / Courtland), it is not Gleeson road that you take off Highway 80 as the map indicates, but you will be fine if you follow the road signs to Gleeson. Many of the dirt roads throughout Gleeson and Cpurtland are posted no trespassing. I never saw any sign of Bornite as the author noted or much mineralogy of interest at all on the mine dumps I visited. The map in the book is so generic and non-specific that it was of little use. Site 102 (Helvetia) was worse, the map shows Helvetia cemetery on the right side of Santa Rita Road - it is in fact on the left side of the road. There was one interesting mine that we visited with lots of copper color in the dumps, you will see it to the right of the road near an abandoned bus two miles or so past the cemetery. Whatever roads existed to other mines in the area are either gated private property or are no longer passable. We started down a pipeline road past the abandoned bus but turned around as the road was so overgrown that it was not passable. Site 94 was not much better, the access road shown on the map in the book at milepost 301 and the one to the south are gated and posted no trespassing. I did not try the third access road. I should have done my research with online topo maps and discussion groups rather than this book - which is what I'd suggest you do. Buyer Beware. I have to wonder if the author actually visited these areas close to when the book was published...

Just got this book and we had luck at the first location we picked. We then tried to go to a nearby site, but had trouble locating it. Due to time constraints we headed back pretty pleased with some beautiful Jasper. A great day in the Jeep with the top down. Weâ€™re in Scottsdale and planning more trips soon to other locations!

This book has a of copyright 2009. For the places that this book covers it seems to do a good job, although I have read that some of the places are not super accurate or over picked, I wish they would come up with an updated edition soon. The paper in the book is nice quality and there is a mixture of black and white and colour pictures as well as maps for each location. The book also offers good general information as well.

Haven't been to Arizona yet but the book is of the same quality as the other Gem Trail books I own. These books have great maps and photos of the sites. With the descriptions the book gives it would be hard to get lost.

Really like "Gem Trails of Arizona" !!! I'm a rock hound, and learned some very interesting things. I didn't know before. Going to check out the Gen Shows in Tucson, as well as others.

My husband an I recently took a trip to Arizona and New Mexico. After using this book for the first time, we were able to find everything that was stated, and in large beautiful quantities. Directions were very good, might have been off a tenth or two, but...you guys did all the work for us! We both loved the results. Our only dilemma was, we didn't have the book for New Mexico!!!! But...I just ordered it.

Clear directions and solid data on places to collect and prospect. perfect for our family holiday planning.

This book is interesting and somewhat helpful. I purchased the 2001 edition in 2009. Some of the directions and sites were not as given, but that is to be expected. It would be nice if the author had some means of being informed of changes.Some changes that should be of interest to others are: Site 8, pg 32, Desert Roses. There were none to be found even with a walk up to and around the base of Fire Mnt. Site 20: pg 56, Parks Obsidian. Forest Road 141 has been renamed to Government Mountain Road. There is a fence around the "obsidian Tank", but there is no gate and the area is pretty well opened for samples. Site 37, page 102, Winslow petrified wood. Following the dirt road a mile or two after the bridge you will find petrified wood. There are several petrified tree remains off the shoulder of the road, however this is not the colorful petrified wood, but a brownish gray/tan with little if any color.Site 36, page 100, Joseph City Petrified wood appears now to be a trash site. Small pieces of petrified wood and agate can be found, but be careful of the broken bottles and other trash that has been dumped in the area.This is a helpful book for finding some of the minerals that are listed.Gem Trails of Arizona
