This book is for the GM/DM/Keeper/Marshal of Deadlands. As with the Player's Guide, it's jam packed with information. There's a lot of info on the setting, the different factions vying for power, and there are plenty of monsters and other baddies to throw at your posse.Everything here is what I've come to expect from Pinnacle Entertainment Group products: well laid-out text, cool art, and lots of useful info for running/playing their game. I love all of the DK Eyewitness Travel Guides as they provide a digest version of where you're planning to travel, so I'd definitely buy them if I was still in the process of choosing. I don't like to miss things I should have known about and this book has already pointed out several things. A common thread among these guides are also what to realistically expect - what areas are historically significant but filled with cheesey souvenir stalls, what the busiest times are, places you can and can't go and for what reasons, type of dress, hours of attractions, food recommendations, website addresses, etc. The reason I like the pictures so much is so that I can flip through while traveling or while referencing/looking for something I thought I read - the images catch your eye so things can be found quickly (there's also an index). They can be little heavy to carry with you, but if you are just brushing up ahead of a trip and/or don't care about the weight, then that's not relevant. I also appreciate that this one specifically combined several places in the region that we're going to (Petra, Jerusalem, the Sinai area) so that I didn't have to buy three separate books on the topics, but it includes all the information I need. Have bought several and will buy again.

As usual the DK Eyewitness Guide gives you a colorful, easy-to-use travel companion. This one covers Jerusalem in full but does give Tel Aviv a bit of a short shrift. There is a detachable map of Jerusalem included but not one of Tel Aviv. The addition of Petra in Jordan is very helpful as many tourists in Israel make that a stop. As there is so much history in this part of the world, it's worthwhile to get a grasp on it before you visit. This guide does that very well. The illustrations and charts are always first rate. This is both a guide book and a remembrance of your trip.

This is great if you are traveling to the other areas, but was not specific enough for our focus of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Reviewed before the trip and decided to leave this at home.

This is a useful and beautifully gathered collection of information on Israel's sacred ancient sites as well as what is taking place in Israel today and what it now looks like. I had hoped for more detailed information on some of the biblical sites, but it is a reasonable introduction to the land and its history for the beginner or those going to Israel for the first time.

This was a fantastic tool we used in our recent trip to Israel. It has everything in it that we needed for getting around and sightseeing. We tried to see as much as possible and this book was used everyday. The pictures are great, the information extremely valuable, and the maps are easy to read and use.WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!

This is particularly nice as it's secular/non-denominational (so many other guides for this area were not). DK ususally has nice guides for those who are visually strong (I personally prefer Michelin guides, but those are all words). Well organized, well written & well pictured. Information and recommendations were good. I'd recommend for a trip.

The guide was good for knowing what's available in the the city, but the map had limited streets (so not helpful when transit takes too long). Really need another full map of Jerusalem or you will miss out while there. While there was info on public buses in the book, it took so long to get around - like two hours to go a couple of miles. Next time I would just pay for a cab so I could actually see the places I want to see rather than playing with the transit mentioned in the guidebook.

DK travel guides are always my favorite way to plan for a trip, and this one is no exception. Maps and many color photographs make it easy to get excited about the wonderful places we will visit on our trip to Israel and Jordan. The guide has some references to Egypt, so I think an earlier version might have included that country as well. Better editing is required to make it germane to the countries listed.

Prior to reading this sexy shapeshifter erotic romance, I was vaguely familiar with Renee Rose’s work. I’d recently read her age-play romance, HER HOLLYWOOD DADDY, and knew there was buzz surrounding this “naughty” erotica author (who also pens BDSM books under the name Darling Adams). So when I saw the free “follow-up” novella to THE ALPHA’S HUNGER—THE ALPHA’S PUNISHMENT-- I downloaded it mostly out of curiosity because I enjoyed the author’s work. I wasn’t necessarily expecting much more than a pleasant read from that short novella since shapeshifter romances aren’t necessarily my “thing,” but boy am I glad to be proven wrong! In fact, I was so captivated by the dynamic between Ben and Ashley in that short novella that I immediately downloaded this full-length novel, THE ALPHA’S HUNGER.Without giving too many spoilers away, let me say that I was really blown away by this book. Renee Rose takes the classic alpha boss/secretary hook and adds twist after delicious twist! THE ALPHA’S HUNGER is a beautifully crafted story featuring a magnetically sexy, gloriously tormented Alpha Lone “Wolf” hero who is powerfully drawn to his new assistant, the adorably charming and feisty Ashley Bell. But, knowing deep down that falling in love with a human is a bad idea, he tries to suppress his fierce animalistic urges and vows to keep sweet Ashley at arm’s length. However, all bets are off when his beguiling secretary with the delicious curves and big blue eyes betrays him in the worst possible way, and now both their lives are in grave danger. Of course, there are fierce consequences to be paid for Ashley’s transgressions, and the big bad Ben Stone is not a man to be crossed!I love the primal attraction between these two characters and how their relationship evolves as the characters become deeper entrenched in Ben’s dangerous and secretive Werewolf world. As a lover of all romance sub-genres (not just erotic bdsm/spanking romances), I have certain criteria to what makes a romance truly special: A unique premise that hasn’t been done hundreds of times. Hot, fiercely protective alpha heroes with a gentle touch. Sweet, smart, feisty heroines. Sizzling romantic chemistry brimming with emotional tenderness. Sparkling dialogue. And, most importantly, a deeply emotional component that melts my heart. THE ALPHA’S HUNGER has all that and more! It goes without saying that I was captivated by the book’s visceral romantic prose, suspenseful atmosphere, hot sensuality, and vibrant characters, but it was the emotional depth in this story that truly made this book shine. I found Ben’s deep inner turmoil to be particularly gripping, and I really believed that this gruff hero truly loved the heroine with every breath he took, and would do anything to protect her from harm. Even if that meant staying away from her forever. The inner battle he waged as he fought against his primitive instinct to mark her as is really resonated deeply, and added a nice level of complexity to this book.And while the spanking scenes were unquestionably scorching hot, in my opinion, it was just icing on the cake and not the main draw of this book. I think all fans of the PNR genre looking for a hot, sexy, emotionally-provocative read would probably love this book, not just spanking erotica aficionados.Bottom line: Renee Rose is now officially on my list of favorite romance authors I’ve read in 2015, and I look forward to eventually catching up on many of her backlist titles, as well as her future releases!

I really wanted to like this book and the synopsis had me intrigued. The story started off promising, but then came the problem of Ashley suddenly morphing into this woman who had a past history falling for authority figures. That would have been nice to know in the beginning so her behavior when Ben spanked her for the first time didn't seem so out of character. The story started to drag midway through and it seemed as though even the story was about someone wanting to take away Ben's company, the other 1/2 of the book was about the number of times Ashley and Ben would "almost" have sex with one another. Holding back on the real reason Ben can't go to South America even more than halfway through the book grew tiresome for me. I couldn't even bring myself to finish the book. There was almost no humor and what that there was of it, was only amusing at best. Seems like the only way they had chemistry was in the bedroom and no clear understanding of how the other person thinks even 2/3 of the way into the book. There are a few books I've read over the years that I don't finish because the story dragged on too long. I'm sorry to say that this was one them

The odd combination of Erotica and Paranormal worked really well for this novel. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did.After the obsession with a certain young adult series, werewolves and vampires stories just didn't appeal to me. I've read a few here and there but for the most part I avoid any novels with the mention of them. I took a chance with this one because the synopsis intrigued me.The writing was on point. Flowing evenly and effortlessly. The action packed scenes went hand and hand with the steamy ones making the story full of realistic emotions and feelings. Both heroine and hero were well developed in depth characters. Ben was alpha to the fullest, but his sweet side towards Ashley was heart warming. Ashley was slightly shy and soft-spoken with a hidden spitfire personality that went well with Ben's natural dominance. Their chemistry was the perfect combination.The story itself was what caused the 4 star rating. Although no where near original, the plot was thick with just enough action and steam to keep me reading until I was done. On top of that the love story that was weaved in between was adorable. I took me one sitting to finish it because I was unable to put it down.This is my first novel by the author but defiantly not last. I've become a fan of paranormal and erotica romance if written by this author. Book 2 is already ready to be downloaded.

While this re-release was at a special price, I picked up the novel that began it all, and once again was blown out of my mind! Renee Rose has become one of my most favorite Indie authors because she tells incredibly marvelous contemporary, paranormal, and straight-up Sci-fi stories about people that feel real enough to walk off the pages and into real life. “ALPHA’S HUNGER” is entertaining and so captivating I could not put it down once I started it. The whole idea of sifters fascinates me, and the love story between Ben and Ashley captured my imagination. If you are looking for a GREAT read for your Spring Break or even this weekend, then “ALPHA’S HUNGER” should be your next romance purchase! Happy pages! 😉

My review is not about the novel. It is about the edition, which is the worst physical hard back publication I can remember ever seeing. There is no information on the translator - I'm not even sure this is a legal publication. The print is unnecessarily tiny and it is splattered with typographic errors, including groups of letters that have no relationship to a word. I was left being unsure all of the novel was even included. I strongly recommend not buying this, and Amazon should consider not offering it for sale.

I cannot imagine a better read as one approaches a transition in life. I now understand that preparing the soul, the state of mind, takes precedence over the more tangible aspects of change.

This book could have some hugely profound points. It could be a literary transcendental masterpiece. If that is the case, it was unfortunately wasted on me.What bothered me about the book:1. An unrealistic setting. The utopian province of Castalia was void of all girls or women. If it weren’t for a few appearances by Plinio’s wife (i.e., she who has no name) and some incidental characters (a servant, the mention of prostitutes), all of whom are outside the realm of Castalia, this book would take place in an entirely all-male world. As profound and transcendental the purpose of this book seems to be, such an environment made it seem quite one dimensional.2. Repetition. Concepts were worded and reworded and then reworded again in so many ways to drive a concept home. It was tedious. I wanted to skip over chunks of rehashed description, which defeats the purpose of reading a novel.What impressed me about the book:1. The Game. Hesse described a game that in reality doesn’t exist and in the novel is at best nebulous, yet somehow is made tangible and alive.2. Knecht. Being just a regular person, I have practically no insight into how someone can live a life of austerity and extreme discipline. Knecht’s compulsion for devotion to the Game and the creativity involved in its design was well brought to life.I found this book a bit of a slog and would not recommend it, unless you liked The Celestine Prophecy.

I am glad that I am not the only reader who finds this a tough slog.One of the most famous quotations about studying history comes from "The Glass Bead Game," and loving that quotation, I felt compelled to read the book. Hesse's use of of language is beautiful, even in translation.This is a book full of intriguing ideas and useful mental nuggets, but it is not my Hesse book of choice.As I read the "Glass Bead Game," I truly thought it was set in Edwardian times, in some deadly cold, extraordinarily sterile society. How astounding to discover it is set in the future!The book seems to me to be a giant spoof on all past, present and future academics who take themselves and their studies far too seriously; yet I haven't seen any reviews by other academics who agree.Perhaps Hesse, himself, was the master of the "Glass Bead Game."Kim BurdickStanton, Delaware

This is my all-time favorite novel. I have read it several times and have given it to friends many times over the years !

I cannot do this justice here. I will have to post a full review when I have the time to give this what it deserves. This is one of the best works of art and one that can and should move each reader to greater things then they have done before.

This is a weird one, guys. The pacing isn't awesome, but the writing itself is really great. Hesse's scentence structure and word choice really shine.I think I got more out of the last third of the book than the whole plodding main narrative, but I am glad I read it.It was a bit like looking at a challenging and slightly unpleasant painting in an art museum. While one can't help but marvel at the technical acheivement of the thing, still it wouldn't hang in a livingroom.

This book, which was a classic to the counterculture in the 1960s, holds a deep, quiet appeal. Its slow and formal narration, while it does not for one moment reach out toward the reader commanding attention, creates a meditative, half mesmerizing mood that goes deep, always eluding the intellect--at least this reader's intellect--but reaching deep into chambers of feeling. Not easy to categorize or even to praise, yet its power lingers, a ghost of a half-buried human truth.
