Mo O'Hara is the author of the New York Times-bestselling MY BIG FAT ZOMBIE GOLDFISH series. She grew up in Pennsylvania, and now lives in London, where she works as a writer, actor, and storyteller, visiting theaters and schools all across the UK and Ireland. (I’m only talking about the first half of the book.)Do you remember the 1964 movie “Goldfinger” with James Bond 007 and Oddjob with his bowler hat? This was a terrific movie!The book we are talking about is probably for kids less than 13 years old and older people (like me). And this is a TERRIFIC book as well. This one has Oddjobz, but no James Bond 007 at all --- more like James Bond 013. Why? Because there are 13 Chapters and there PUNS GALORE!! (I even like what I wrote!) And all are connected with real James Bond movies (many of which I don’t even remember).Here are some of the characters:Tom (the narrator); his best friend, Pradeep; Pradeep’s his 3 year old sister, Sami; and, of course, Oddjobz. The bad guys are: Mark (Tom’s older brother) an EVILScientist; and Sanj (Pradeep’s older brother) an EVIL Computer Genius).And there are some “animals”: Tom has a ZOMBIE GOLDFISH named Frankie; Oddjobz has an octopus named Antonio; and Mark’s EVIL vampire kitten named Fang, but I don’t think it’s really evil.A wonderful, funny book. Kudos to the author (Mo O’Hara) and illustrator (Marek Jagucki). 5 Goldfish out of 5!!!!!Last thing about “Goldfinger”: Oddjob was Harold Sakata and he was a Olympic and professional wrestler. (I didn’t know that!)

My 2nd grader loves these books. Although we read them out of order they are still really fun think read. They do use words likeep "moron" and "stupid" when the older brother is harassing the younger kids but that doesn't bother me as my daughter knows not that use those words when talking to people.

After being told by my six year old that he doesn't like zombies, my reluctant little reader is loving this book. It is imaginative and fun and appeals to a first grader's sense of humor. My one concern is that I spend a lot of time trying to teach my child not to engage in name-calling and this book has a lot of it, starting with "MORON" that is littered all over the story. I don't think it adds to the story that much. I've chosen to take this as a teachable moment, but parents should be aware that it exists.

My kid loves this book! Absolutely hilarious and heart-warming to hear your kid laughing at this book.It's a wonderful introduction to chapter reading. Definitely not for new readers, but great for kids who love to read (i'd say ages about 8-12+).The chapters are short, so having rewards for reading chapters makes getting them to read a little easier.

I read this book to my son, who at the time didn't enjoy reading very much. This book is funny and showed him a new way that reading could be enjoyable. We love the characters, and Frankie is the best. The flip art on the corners is an added bonus. We look forward to reading the further adventures of Frankie, the zombie goldfish and his humans.

My 9-yr. old grandson (and I) love the Zombie Goldfish books and have been reading them, as they are published for about two years. They are great fun and tell a great story. Very entertaining for boys, girls and the folks who are reading to them.

My son absolutely loves these books. I have bought him the entire set that is out so far and he is anxiously awaiting the next one. I am not sure what the appeal is but I know that they have both stories and other games and things for him to play in each book. They are written at approximately a 3rd grade reading level.

I bought this to read with my niece. The title sounded funny and made me think she would enjoy it. So far we both really like it and plan to read more books in the series.

We have been in Rome three times in the past (total of 6 weeks). We used mainly the Michelin Green Guide and recommendations of our Roman friends. Nevertheless, as we have been there for the last time in 2005, we decided to refresh or memories from a brand new 2019 guide. We have chosen Rick Steves Rome 2019.I’m about 75% through the guide and I find most of the information very helpful and correct even if I would add a bit more information about some unique spots; e.g., about the foam on coffee at the Sant' Eustachio Il Caffè.Another passage could use a bit of explaining: "You’ll pass (at #16, on the right) a low-key doorway protected by security. This is the headquarters of Italy’s Democratic Party. The street becomes Via di Propaganda. You’ll pass alongside the...” (Kindle Locations 2500-2502).Not many readers will remember that the Italian Democratic Party has very different roots than the American Democratic Party – it is the Italian Communist Party that changed their name to something rather misleading. The “Democrats” mismanaged the Italian economy so badly that the current government (and the mayor of Rome) is governed by parties that were just a few years ago left- and rightwing populist movements, on the fringe of Italian politics.As this is the first guide by Rick Steves that I purchased, I did not know that he has a very childish sense of humor in addition to out of place leftist biting remarks; e.g.“And the big beige building with columns and clock houses the right-wing Il Tempo newspaper. It’s appropriately situated in what was the headquarters of the fascist party of Mussolini.” (Kindle Locations 2447-2449).Sorry Mr. Steves, the fascists were just a nationalist version of communists and had nothing to do with the right wing. This comment about the Il Tempo shows the problem with making silly comments without first checking some sources. By the way, Il Tempo was founded after Liberation of Rome, so it has no connection to the fascists.What about this childish and silly comment that a good editor should delete: “Christians blamed the fall [of Rome] on moral decay. Pagans blamed it on Christians. Socialists blamed it on a shallow economy based on the spoils of war. (Republicans blamed it on Democrats.)” (Kindle Locations 3443-3444). Why not the other way around?The final quote shows that slandering those that Mr. Steves doesn't like takes precedence over facts: “In the 1500s, the best way to keep Protestants from stealing your church members was to reason with them. By the 1600s, it was easier to kill them, and so the Thirty Years’ War raged across Europe. The church became crusted over with the colorful, bombastic, jingoistic Baroque we see today.” (Kindle Locations 2770-2772)Hello! What about reading a bit about what precipitated the Thirty Years’ War? Anyone knows what ended the Peace of Augsburg? What about the Defenestration of Prague? Were there more Roman Catholics or more Protestants killed before the Peace of Westphalia ended the carnage in 1648? Who won the Thirty Years’ War?

We just returned from 10 days in Rome. I kept this book with me all of the time. It was great for organizing self guided walks in the different areas of Rome. For example with took a bus to the Termini station and visited all of the sites the book described in that area one day. We were able to see all of the Michaelangelos, Berninis and Caravaggios scared around the city. Good descriptions of what to see at the more popular sites like the Vatican museums as well. We did have some guided tours and we noticed those tracked pretty closely with what was in the book.

This book bailed me out. We were in Venice during extreme flooding and headed to Rome. I paged through the book and found a hotel named Oceania which Rick said was a favorite of his. It was the highlight of our trip. I would never have found a hotel in the historic district with that much charm and delightfull owners without this book. It was a bargain as well.

Nobody does it like Rick Steves! I used a lot of books to plan my trip to Italy and Rick's consistently contain the most and most useful information. From train travel tips to restaurant suggestions to self-guided tours, this is the book to get. I love the little man that it came with and the level of helpful hints provided.

Rick Steve's books are the best for learning about destinations. Been using them for our last 5 trips to Europe

I got to know Diego Caloca before he wrote this book. I read review after review from people that he rebound their Bibles for and they were gorgeous! Taking a tired old Bible and not only giving it new life, but with the leather cover and the leather lining... I used lamb skin... They were transformed into supple works of art that actually felt alive in your hand. He shared with me his accumulated knowledge of re-binding Bibles. I was able to rebind several Bibles and was encouraged by Diego after each one no matter how rough it was. He is a born teacher and he really knows and understands his craft and loves to share his knowledge. I am so happy that Diego wrote this book... Well Done Diego!

I’m thankful that Mr. Caloca wrote this guidebook. He’s one of the greatest Bible rebinders out there right now. As an amateur who rebinds Bibles for family and friends I learned many tips from his book that will help my Bibles look better. He is also a man of God and his gift as a craftsman preserves the word of God for future generations. God bless you Mr. Caloca and keep doing The Lord’s work!

This has got to be the world's most expensive book. It comes in a mere 64 pages, the writing is on a par with secondary school level composition, and the author has produced such other expert tomes as "Italy in Pictures" and "Does a ten Gallon Hat Really Hold Ten Gallons". Even the photos are hackneyed. Anyone really wishing to understand anything about American clothing is advised to go eklsewhere. Anywhere else. A total rip-off

When this book popped up on NetGalley from Lerner, I was all over it. 40s fashion is usually how I like to dress when dressing fancy, simply because the styles were geared towards a more curvaceous body (which is what I have). Plus they had some awesome hair. So now there's a book that highlights all of the great moments in war time fashion? Yes, please!This isn't a book with a plot; it's just something that's nice and informational about the clothing and general style of the era. From the hair to the clothes, accessories and shoes, for both men and women, LITTLE BLACK DRESS does a great job of highlighting the best parts of the fashion. Not to mention I got introduced to some awesome designers whose designs I might just have to take to a seamstress because, well, I want some of these dresses, quite frankly.I only had a couple of complaints. One, I wish Behnke would have mentioned Betty Page, whose style had a huge influence on the culture of the time, along with the hair style known as the victory roll. It was a very popular wartime style that takes some practice to manage. I didn't see either of these mentioned and I felt the book could have even better if they'd been added.Also, someone got a little liberal with some of the photos and using Photoshop. I liked most of the photography. Looking at old pictures always draws me in but some of them were wildly colored with backgrounds that weren't flattering to the part of the image that they were trying to make pop. I think a more subtle background with a simple 3D effect in the foreground would have been more than enough to highlight the fashion in those particular photos. (This is in the NetGalley digital advanced copy edition.)Other than that, loved it and I want to buy it for my collection. It's a good book to have for reference (for costumes, for instance, or, if you're like me, for actual dressing) and it's just something nice to look at. It'd make a great coffee table book. One thing LITTLE BLACK DRESS really proved is that the styles that emerged in these three decades really made a lasting impression on culture as a whole. There's a level of class there that isn't seen too much today and now so many designs fall back on those older ones for inspiration, although they take it to levels now that demean the original class of the style. In a world where trash is class and the less you wear means the sexier you are, it's wonderful seeing images in a time where glamour really shown. Where sex appeal wasn't just in the type of body you had but in how you held yourself, in a time where clothes were made for bodies, not the other way around.Seriously, I loved this book and if you're into the same kind of fashion I am, you'll love it too.

I devour old vogue patterns, and have gotten light-headed over finding boxes of old patterns at garage sales.There was nothing to not like about this book except that I wanted MORE.The pics were fun, the info was good, but not overwhelming. It covered everything from hairstyles, to everyday clothes, to the really, really, fun stuff.I love how the information on the clothing was integrated into the history of the time periods, and it NEVER felt like a history book. I loved the organization, and the highlighted quotes.WAY. FUN. BOOK.Also - I'm buying this for my neice, and even though I've read it, I'm going to buy one for me, because I must HOLD it.

This book is everything I hoped it would be - lots of detailed, practical, applicable information on all aspects of creating a CQ block. I've been looking at CQ books for a while, and this really gets down to the nitty gritty of design - guidelines to choose and balance colors and patterns, for placing dominant motifs/embellishments, for directing the eye around the block, how/where to use different weights/types of trim, how to build expanded seam treatments - the list goes on. If you only buy one CQ book, this is it.

I bought the Kindle version of this book and its very high quality. Even if you are not a fan of encrusted crazy quilting (I am not) there is a lot to learn here. "Since there is no right or wrong way to make a crazy quilt, embracing this form of quilting can be very liberating," says Boggon, wo then outlines, the process of making a crazy quilt project and how to choose a project. From there she reviews fabrics and design considerations and theory, block designs, color theory and choices, composition, piecing techniques (foundation piecing), adding embellishments like lace, ribbon and ric rack, braids, buttons, doilies and hankies along with prairie points. Then she turns to stitching, covering threads and needles before moving into actual stitching instruction.. Here we learn how to use ribbon, beads, marking tools like plastic canvas and marking pencils anf templates. And finally we get to stitches and techniques, which Boggon has much experience with as a result of her weekly Facebook stitching challenges. Finally there is a section on adding beads.Whichever format you purchase you will not be disappointed with this book. Its written by a teacher who has long experience writing an online blog, maintaining a comprehensive website and using social media to engage stitchers all over the world. Highly recommended.

This is the best book I have spent money on in a long time. Sharon has broken the crazy quilt stitches down to everyday talk that we can all understand. The pictures are absolutely beautiful. AND the helpful tips that she has included for stitching are wonderful, it makes me want to get out my tools and get to work. I am so pleased with this purchase. I am a left handed stitcher and not all teachers will put the left hand sewing directions in their descriptions. I have had to always reverse the directions on my own or do it as the right handed stitchers do. I am only half way through the book but just had to let you know how pleased I am. Thank you so much for this book.

Wow! Sharon did a great job on this book. There are lots of books on the market for stitches and how to make a crazy quilt, but this one answers the basic question:how do I make a CRAZY quilt that does not look like a hot mess? This book takes you from gathering materials, to design, to piecing and then to embellishing. Lots and lots of yummy photos.

I am new to crazy quilting and found this book to be just what I needed. I couldn't get myself started and Sharon Boggon helped me a lot and I'm ready to actually do some crazy quilting. I am a quilter and grew up doing cross stitch and embroidery and crewel. So melding those elements into one project fascinated me. I am a subscriber of Sharon's website, Pintangle, and find her TAST (Take a Stitch Tuesday) fascinating. So I cannot wait to employ her design ideas into my own project. The directions for the stitches and other design elements are beautiful and simple to follow. I love this book.

I've been a fan of Sharon's Pintangle Website for a couple years and loved her work on her Y2K crazy quilt I Dropped the Button Box. So when she decided to write a book, there was no question about getting it! Great book for anybody wanting to get started in crazy quilting and pleanty of eye candy too!!!

I'm not a crazy quilter, but I love this book for its many ideas and how-tos that also apply to surface embroidery. There are step-by-step instructions for dozens of stitches and even more variations. There are useful chapters on design, including one on color, plus information on threads, needles, adding beads to stitches, and more. The stitch instructions show how to mark your fabric and then demonstrate the stitch using photos for both right and left-handers. I hope more needlework authors and publishers follow her lead!This is a practical and inspiring book, and I look forward to using it for crazy quilting in the near future. But for now, it's simply one of my favorite embroidery books.

The content of the book -- the luscious images -- are both inspirational and intimidating. I am pleased I made a decision to purchase the book and am gathering fabric and notions to begin my own crazy quilt but need to practice my embroidery sewing a bit more before taking on the challenge.

Home and shipboard cooking using the freshest ingredients from port to port. Reading this cookbook is an adventure into the lives of the ships Captain and the Chef on the Hudson River. Beautiful photos artfully taken with a history of sailing on the Hudson and the East Coast.

Several years ago a friend and I sailed on the J & E Riggan, one of the Maine schooners, owned by Capts Anne Mahle and John Finger. She was the chef, the food was superb, all cooked on a wood stove on the schooner. This cookbook is full of her recipes. I've tried several of them and they are just as good as I remember. The cookbook also has stories and history of the schooner. A great cookbook. Even better, take a schooner cruise on the Riggan along the coast of Maine, it will be a favorite trip.

This is a great book. Food tastes great. Had a chance to taste some of it on the windjammer cruise they have.

One of my cooking bibles. The recipes are straightforward and delicious, especially Annie's "Cheesy Potatoes"! I'm a sailor, too, and my hat is off to her to make such great food aboard their schooner.

This was a happy surprise in my Christmas stocking this year, after my mother ran into the author at Barnes and Noble. I'm so glad she snagged me a copy, since I'm not quite sure what I'd do without this cookbook in my home.This is one of those cookbooks that you don't know if you should put in your kitchen with the rest of the cookbooks, or out on the coffee table so that everybody can enjoy it. This book features wonderfully sophisticated home-cooking style recipes, breathtaking photos from the J&E Riggin, the Maine Windjammer that's currently cared for by the author and her husband, and oodles of stories about the Windjammer, their voyages, their history, and the ideas behind these recipes. This cookbook has the feel of a family journal or photo album, which is really a great feeling that is lost with a lot of cookbooks. So often these days when you buy a cookbook, it feels like the recipes featured in it are made once or twice in a test kitchen before getting a rubber-stamped approval to be shown in their mass-produced cookbook. But you don't feel that with this book. You know that these recipes were made dozens, maybe hundreds of times to hundreds of hungry people before being collected and featured in a cookbook that feels like should be a personal family cookbook, not something you can just pick up at a bookstore. I love that feel.There are a ton of recipes in this book, not different versions of the same ol' meals that you can find in any cookbook. Unique recipes, ones that I've never seen on paper other than from my mother's handwritten recipe cards. Recipes like German Apple Pancakes, Roasted Mushrooms and Artichoke Sauce, Nectarine-Blueberry Bread, Ginger Shortbread, Black Bottom Banana Cream Pie, Pumpkin Cheesecake, Pork Pot Pie, Lemon Lobster with Sun-Dried Tomatoes, Wassail Bowl Punch... I could go on and on. Amazing. And this recipe book is a "from scratch" book, which I think is such a blessing, because there is nothing more frustrating than buying a cookbook with 100 different ways to prepare a can of "cream of chicken" soup and a can of refrigerator biscuits. This is a cookbook for cooks, and those of us who wish we were. We need more cookbooks out there like this.There is next to nothing wrong with this cookbook. The only observations I have made is that sometimes I need a little more description on the making of a recipe (for example, a notation the dough will be runny, lumpy, etc) as there have been a recipes that I made where the consistency or appearance wasn't quite what I expected. Also, it is obvious that some of these recipes were reduced from a recipe that made more servings for more people, so some of the seasonings and ingredients have to be tweaked for a more intimate setting. No big deal, just something to keep in mind.I love this cookbook. My favorite recipes thus far include the German Apple Pancakes, Pork Pot Pie, Rita's Double Toffee Delight, and the Wassail Punch. Even as we speak I have a batch of Double Toffee Delights filling my house with its delicious aroma. Every time I use this book, I remember Maine vacations, fine meals, happy memories... It's the best investment in a book I think anybody could make.This cookbook is a must-have for anybody. I can't say enough wonderful things about it.

I am one of those gen-x cooks who can make the basics for dinner and dessert. But, ever since I started using this cookbook, I have not only been preparing good wholesome dishes for my daughter and I, but have found myself trying new things. I am not known as the cook in my family, but having tried out a few recipes at family get-togethers, my family now wonders what I will be making next (and did she really make that?).I can follow a recipe as long as it is easy to make, and with this book it's not only easy, it's fun. I love reading the overall story of Anne, her husband Jon and children, Chloe and Ella. It adds a very personal touch to something that I used to think of as "a book of food to make".Not only are the recipes great, the photos in this book are so fantastic-giving you a real sense of being in Maine on a windjammer. It truly makes me want to go sailing again. I especially enjoyed the section called 'A Week at Sea'. How much better could life get-spending a whole week relaxing with the wind in your hair, taking part of hundred year old traditions, and eating some of the most delectable food you have ever tasted?! I don't think it can. Having sailed on the J&E Riggin myself, I can say with absoluteness that the mouth-watering cuisine that folks can have onboard, they can also have at home with this book.Anyone that either buys a copy or receives one as a gift will from that point on consider this their favorite cookbook- I sure know I do!

I was really glad to receive this cookbook as a gift as I have found it great fun to use. I think the layout of the cookbook was very well done as well as the color of the pages. . not something you see very often in a cookbook. The pictures are really beautiful and catch the feeling of the sea. I enjoy the margin notes in each section as well as, for example, in the Meat Section, Anne's description of the dinner menus she serves on board or under Yeast Breads her suggestions on proofing, flour vs water, etc. I found these very helpful. My one suggestion would be that if you weren't familiar with yeast breads, you wouldn't know how hot the "warm water" should be. Possibly if a temp. was added indicating that the "warm water" should be 105/110 it might be helpful. Also, after you make muffins some indication on whether they should be left in the pan or taken out. I loved the Blueberry Lemon Bread and so did some of my friends and especially Dana's Maple-Dill Dressing . .yum-o! I like to be able to make quick and good meals and this tops my list.
