I'd postponed buying this book because I knew the information would be dated to the 1950s and earlier. However, when yet another person described her "miracle cure" and referred to something in this book... well, I had to see if Dr. Jarvis' advice was that good.It is.It's an older book with some amusing cultural references. Some dry humor shows through, but this is a "just the facts, ma'am" kind of book, loaded with useful information. It's also very loosely organized. I recommend reading it with a highlighter pen at hand. Otherwise, it can take awhile to locate the advice a second time.This book is general enough for almost everyone with an interest in health and natural remedies, but it'll be most interesting to people with hypothyroid issues. Oh, that's not the only topic Dr. Jarvis talks about, but -- as someone with low-grade hypothyroid issues -- when a book talks at length about kelp and Lugol's oil, I know it might relate to thyroid function. The potassium issue also interested me, and Dr. Jarvis describes it in fresh, down-to-earth (pun intended) terms.All in all, this is a truly amazing little book. While the stories are mostly anecdotal, they're backed up by the author's animal research... and surprisingly convincing.The use of apple cider vinegar to lose inches (not necessarily weight) caught my attention. I now start my day with the dosage recommended in this book. (After all, it's vinegar in small amounts... it's certainly worth a try.)The castor oil advice was an instant winner. I've had a "liver spot" on one cheek since the birth of my middle child, and -- overnight -- the spot was at least 50% lighter and, today, my skin practically glows thanks to Dr. Jarvis' simple advice. (The tricky part was finding castor oil. I'm in rural New Hampshire and I expected to find this old-time remedy at the grocery store or pharmacy, but nobody carried it. Amazon does - NOW Solutions Castor Oil, 100 % Pure, 16 ounce )Health-conscious readers will read between the lines and recognize advice that's been fine-tuned in more recent years. However, the tried-and-true, simple version is still reliable. Dr. Jarvis' recommendations are holistic and require only the simplest foods and natural ingredients.No major lifestyle changes or expensive products are necessary to see if Dr. Jarvis' advice will work for you.I wish I'd read this book long ago.

It is old. It was written decades ago. This is the best book for self-healing, next to the Bible. Put it on your bedside table, next to all your "must reads." Use apple cider vinegar with "the mother" for lowering A1C number, age spots,hair conditioner, omigoodness...it is what we call today a "multi-tasker." This tiny book points the way.

Read and re-read this wonderful book; it works!

When you're having problems, and the doctors can't fix it, sometimes the old ways actually do work. I get colds, a LOT. They've been lasting me months, and they're really miserable. The doc even gave me an inhaler (which is expensive!) to help dry me out sometimes. It works. This book told me about potassium. 2 T. of honey every day got me over one cold that day. I loathe honey, so the next cold I tried bananas. I got over it within 3 days. Still pretty good. I found clover honey works better than other honey.There's a lot more information in here that's just as valuable.

Here is the contents of the entire book. Call it spoiler alert if you wish: Every living creature should consume small to vast amounts of apple cider vinegar daily, along with raw, natural honey. Also, everyone alive if they care to stay that way should move to Vermont. The book was highly recommended to me, and I read it cover to cover. That is all. it. says.

Excellent book! I had to order a second one because family and friends have borrowed my copy so much that it finnaly got lost somewhere along the way. Buy one and check it out for there are numerous things that really do work, just use you head and you will have no problems. Would I buy it again (I already am........) and recommend it to others to buy - YES!

A book I intend to read when I have time my father swore buy the book and lived to be 90. Didn't do much doctoring but followed a lot of things in this book.

This book brings you back to the time before our modern health problem of today--too much power in the pharmaceutical industry!It reads like something published from 1958 (the author even talks about one of his patients giving him a book of medicine of hers from 1824). There aren't any easy ways of reading this but to read it word per word. It doesn't list the ailments with the cures in an easily visible way. It talks about them in paragraphs, like he's telling a story of what works and how.But there are a lot of good info here, especially for the price. I'm going to try what he said about castor oil, corn oil, kelp, apple cider vinegar and honey.This is a fast read, I finished it in one sitting (about 1 hr).

This book is 60 years old! Very interesting read.Worth reading for a few hours. I gave my copy to mom. A Vermonter for 20 years.

I have spent Much time, researching and studying farming and agriculture. I have studied all farm animals to some degree and have read stacks of books. This book was outstanding. One of the things that sets it apart is that it actually explains everything. Other books have tried to make it sound complicated to care for one animal or another as if it requires selected geniuses. This book talks to the reader as somebody who is capable of learning and caring for these animals and wants them to understand. The author wants people to feel empowered to raise pigs and do it well. This was an absolutely outstanding author! Great work Kelly Kloner!

I love the "Storey's Guide to Raising..." books. They are just packed with great information. I'm getting ready to start my backyard ranch and these books will be indispensable. I'll list all of the chapter headings for each of the books I got to give you an idea of the information you'll be getting. If this rating were for content of the book only I'd give it 5 stars....tons of good, helpful information. However, I gave it 3 stars for the layout, it's a hard book to follow. Chapters don't flow together very well. It's almost as if the author wrote each chapter, then shuffled them up and sent it to the printer that way!

Great summary of almost all aspects of raising hogs. Good, consistent use of proper terminology will help the beginner get used to the words. The author expresses his opinions frequently, but aren't we all looking for the opinions of experienced farmers? I do like that he comes down more on the small-scale family farm side of things, and is not in favor of industrial warehouse hog facilities. This book really is about what's best for the pigs.If you're wanting to take your hog operation a step further toward the natural side of things, for example, with forest-finishing, you're going to need some additional information from someone who is actually forest-finishing their hogs.The author seems to be in favor of providing bite-to-bite consistency in feed, which is something I actively try to avoid with all of my animals. Again, just opinions.All in all, this is probably the best book out there if you want to be able to sit down, read it, and come away with a good working knowledge of raising hogs.Word of warning- if all you're wanting to do is to turn a feeder hog into a butcher hog every year for your own family, most of the information in this book will not apply, but it's still good info. If you think you're going to keep a couple sows and a boar and just provide pork for your own family, think again. Do the math- 2 sows, 2 litters per year, 8 pigs per litter, 250 lb slaughter weight, 150+ lb carcass weight, you're looking at producing about 5000 lb of pork per year. This book will help you figure out what you're going to do with all of that pork.

I liked this book a lot. I'm raising small heritage breeds of American Guinea Hog and soon Kunekune so not everything applies but there was a lot of good info and you can tell this is a good guy who loves his pigs.

This wasn't the best of "Storey's Guide" books that I have gotten in the past. I didn't think it had a lot of hard core facts and knowledge in it but rather seemed like it was this one person's opinion and he seemed very opinionated. More story telling than informative facts.

I felt this book gave me the info I needed to raise pigs successfully

I have several of these books. They are good, but I wish they would cut to the chase as there is a lot of useless information in my opinion.

Great story about a big change in the White House

What a beautiful picture book. Love the illustrations. The story is one we should all know about â€˜ourâ€™ White House, but Iâ€™ve never heard this story before. Imagine the undertaking to switch the White House from gas lamps to electric lights. And Ike Hoover was only 19 years-old! Very well done. Should be in every school library. I hope there is a curriculum guide in the works.

In 1891, a young man nicknamed â€œIke,â€ showed up at The White House. Required reading for an MBA class I took. They don't dumb things down too much and help make sense of the concepts. I really enjoy process improvement so this book was a good read in my opinion. Very relatable examples and simple to understand concepts. This is a good read for someone who is either interested in Continuous Process Improvement or a teacher who is looking for a text for a class. I feel that we all got our moneys worth with this text.

This is a school book, but the book arrived in flawless condition and has fantastic information for CPI. Impressed with how well it is written.

Should be titled "the book of quality-related lists." Pages and pages dedicated to buzzword after buzzword, list after list after list. I think the real purpose of this book is to encourage one to hire quality consultants because the continuous process improvement arena is a maelstrom of ideas, tools, processes, etc. This is most definitely not a "how to" book.
