This book goes over the entire Monday Night War and what is now called the Attitude Era in great detail from an outside Kayfabe (In storyline) perspective. With over 200 fully colored and nicely printed pages, this is definitely worth the price of admission.

Okay, so the bottle opener is cool as hell. Let's get that out of the way. As for the book itself, it's a pretty extensive look at the key moments and figures of the Attitude Era, but it's not for the casual fan / reader. A lot of times the book jumped right into talking about subjects with barely a sentence worth of context to set it up. It's a great read if you already know a ton about wrestling and its 90's history. If not, you might be a touch lost at times. Nothing a quick Google search wouldn't fix, but it might be annoying.

Awesome book with tons of pictures from the Attitude Era, not a ton of personal stories but there are a few pages worth at the very end. I liked how they didn't edit anything out (Chris Benoit, Chyna, TNA, etc). Perfect book to leave out in a table in your man cave.

Very bad for families, no differentiation or discernment on eating. Skip this oneIt is difficult to know who the audience is for Greg Ward's "Rough Guide to Brittany & Normandy" beyond lads on a lark. He merely lists towns, has some vague hand waving about accommodations, mostly to do with camping, and has the shallowest differentiation on eating choices of any "guide" ever published. He mentions that creperies in Brittany often also offer mussels and chips (frites) for the budget minded, but beyond that he isn't much help at differentiating the quality of anything (he does sometimes list prices of things), and therefore this guide is of little value.Top destination for many Brits is of course the St. Malo area, so I'll focus there, but I assure you the guide is equally useless for the south of Brittany near Cargnac. For example, on page 221 on the town of Dinan, he suggests "All sorts of specialist restaurants, including several ethnic varieties, are tucked away in the old streets of Dinan....." He then proceeds to not list a single one, or differentiate any of them as to quality, ethnicity, or price. [ "Have a curry boys, before we drink!"] He follows this unhelpful advice up with "Once you've eaten, the area to head for bars..." I get it, we've paid for a guide book of obvious advice for lads night out. Eat whatever, then go drink.Think I'm being unfair? Example 2: On page 223 Ward writes "There's no great reason to recommend any one of Cancale's restaurants above the rest...." [Sit down and gobswallow oysters and beer mate, its all good!"] And he goes on with similar unhelpful advice for nearly all of Brittany. Ward also appears to be a remarkably bad choice to write a guide book on Brittany and Normandy, as he apparently finds the entire place boring. For example, he is frequently running down the sites with such unhelpful comments as: "...it undoubtedly is in a banal setting" (page 224) "much of a muchness" (numerous examples), "...not at all compelling in themselves..." (page 214), etc.You are better off buying the English language editions of the Michelin Green (sites) and Red (restaurants and hotels) guides than this "guide." Unless you are on a lads weekend where all you are going to do is camp, eat whatever, drink, and vomit. And if you are, you don't need this guide either.

I have to agree with a previous reviewer who stated that the tone is very negative. You would think that the author completely hates this corner of the world! I've been looking forward to visiting Brittany and Normandy, and I know that I will love it there only because I read other books and saw tv specials as well. If I went solely by this book, I wouldn't have a single place I'd want to visit! I usually love The Rough Guides but this one is just horribly written. It also doesn't give much depth on the various towns, nor any comprehensive itinerary ideas.

The Rough Guide seems to have accurate enough information, but the tone of the book is sometimes a little negative and snarky. Focus is definitely on the more budget end of travel and seems aimed at 20-something hipsters travelling. Not as good a guide for family travel.

Ruhl's lesbian cowboy seems natural riding imaginary horses in Pittsburgh (Late: A Cowboy Song); and watch where you step, because the depressed are turning into almonds at almost every turn! (Melancholy Play)The experience of reading plays is a different one from that of reading other fiction or non-fiction works. A woman is irresistible to all men when she is miserable, but the moment she finds happiness, the world shifts and almost no one can stand her any longer.Perhaps most fun of all reading a Sarah Ruhl play are the stage notes, which one would never have the opportunity to enjoy if sitting in the audience and watching the thing. In Melancholy Play, for example, Ruhl has notes about the casting.Frances and Frank, we learn later in this play, are twins. However, in the world of this play, there is no need for twins to resemble each other. If your Frances and Frank look nothing alike, simply change this line on page 315: "TILLY: My God! You look exactly like her!" to "TILLY: My God! You look nothing like her!" or even: "TILLY: My God! You look a little bit like her!"The Clean House and Other Plays is a collection of silly, enchanting and weird stories that, despite their oddness and impossibilities, still hold the ring of truth. Ruhl writes in a way that is so human it is impossible not to be moved. Having never seen a Sarah Ruhl play produced, this writer can tell you that it's not the least bit necessary to enjoy this book. I read every single play in this collection and I was laughing my ass off in all of them! I honestly thought that "The Clean House" would be my favorite (it was the play I bought the collection for) but The Melancholy Play is just so weird and awesome, I enjoyed it so much! I've also read other works by Sarah Ruhl (A Dead Man's Cell Phone) and have come to really enjoy her work. Her voice is so incredibly unique and funny. I sometimes read the plays with my friends, all of us getting a kick out of the wonderfully crafted dialogue and characters.

Reading the work of Sarah Ruhl is, as reviewers before me have endeavored to point out, much like falling in love. It is, at times, highly surreal and gripping in a way that escapes logical reason. Her plays retain the air of the modern, but there is a very old, familiar quality lurking just at the peripheral edges of written consciousness.Her plays are penned in the manner of transcribed dreams; filled with shifting imagery and and skewed perspectives that hit right at the heart, yet still contain an air of the delightfully absurd.Take, for instance, her updated tale of love, "Eurydice"."Eurydice" is a refreshed version of the ancient greek Orpheus myth, telling the story of a dreamy, absorbed musician the literary-minded wife as they span the breadth between the worlds. We are clearly reading the tale of two adults, yet they are characterized with an almost childishly overzealous approach to love, forgetfulness, life and death. Emotions range from startlingly neutral to forcefully passionate in an instant, keeping the audience swept up in her tempestuous story-telling from start to finish while hardly taking a breath.Sarah Ruhl manages to be in the vanguard without being preachy. She manages modern surrealism without losing touch with her audience, keeping everything carefully bound together with a tender red-thread of a true artist. Throughout every literary journey, she takes you gleefully by the hand and drags you down her own personal rabbit hole (for truly, her work does have a certain delightfully obscure Lewis Carroll feel to it). This particular book is a marvelous anthology of her plays (although I DO wish it could have included Dead Man's Cell Phone).

It's very nice to have a collection of Sarah Ruhl's plays at my disposal. From what I've read so far, her work is wonderful. I've done some makeup designs and monologues from Eurydice and love the style of it. Melancholy Play was also wonderful when I saw it live.--quirky, happily dramatic, and thought-provoking. Can't wait to read some more of her works and I hope to see some of these productions live soon as well.

Discovered Sarah Ruhl by chance and I can now say she's probably one of my favorite playwrights. I've only read Melancholy Play and Eurydice so far, but I'm looking forwards to finishing it all!

These plays are fantastic and certainly worth taking the time to read and enjoy. Sarah Ruhl's ability with words is amazing. She is as much a poet as she is a playwright. Eurydice remains one of my all time favorites. If you love theater, love reading, or just love words, do yourself a favor and pick this up.

Sarah Ruhl is one of the finest contemporary playwrights. She uses modern idioms and thought patterns to address classes human dilemmas. Don't miss her!

About the Author

Touko Laaksonen, the boy who would become Tom of Finland (1920-1991), began drawing cartoons at age five. His favorite subjects were the rough manly men of his native Finland, as Touko knew from an early age that men interested him more than women. His talents were further honed by art study in Helsinki. He found success in the Finnish advertising industry but secretly continued creating his increasingly erotic drawings of hyper-masculine men. In 1957 he submitted some drawings to the American magazine Physique Pictorial and the “Tom of Finland” legend was born. By the late 60s Tom’s “dirty drawings” became the standard for gay art, and Tom’s Men a template for a new gay masculinity. Tom’s art continues to play an important role in promoting self-confidence, positive self-image and openness in the gay community.
