Review

"In this incredible book, Marge Fenelon shares with us her touching story of healing and forgiveness. Containing wonderful insights from one of the holiest priests of the 20th century, Fr. Joseph Kentenich, Marge’s story is a testimony to the power of Marian consecration and the rosary. Pray the novena in this book, and allow Jesus and Mary to heal you, too!" —Fr. Donald Calloway, MIC, author, Champions of the Rosary "Forgiving Mother will lift your heart and soul from the pit of despair to the heights of heaven! Marge Fenelon presents a fascinating journey of a life affected by abuse and how she found comfort, hope, and peace through the compassionate, motherly love of Mary. You will experience the power of God’s love in a more meaningful way within the tender embrace of the Mother of Jesus. Forgiving Mother will inspire and encourage you to plumb the depths of God’s mercy in your own life, leading you to profound healing and deeper intimacy with the Lord through the heart of His Blessed Mother." —Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers, author, Behold the Man: A Catholic Vision of Male Spirituality and Ignite: Read the Bible Like Never Before "Are you broken by woundedness which keeps you from attaining peace, happiness, and the full potential of God's will for your life? Are you ready to "be well"? Let Marge Fenelon be your companion to a full and healing relationship with God through the beautiful and salvific intercession of our Mother Mary. Coupled with therapeutic remedies, Forgiving Mother offers you practical guidance and spiritual wisdom born of Marge's own personal experience to begin your journey to wholeness of spirit. Highly recommended!" —Lisa M. Hendey, author, The Grace of Yes  "As someone who has struggled through the pain of broken relationships, Marge's book is a breath of fresh air.  It reminds us that most families are not exactly Norman Rockwell material.  And while as Christians we are called to forgive, reconciling, even with those in our circle of family and friends, sometimes may not be possible.  With the Blessed Mother as her guide Marge helps us navigate this emotional journey with hope that leads to the healing of our own wounded hearts." — Teresa Tomeo, media expert, motivational speaker, bestselling author "This book will be an invaluable asset for those who need to forgive and be forgiven. Marge had courageously shared the story of her painful childhood experiences in order to bring others an awareness of a path for healing. Seeking the assistance of the Blessed Mother's guidance in prayer, Mary affirms all her children as they unite their experiences in a deepening relationship with her Son." — Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki, Milwaukee, Wisconsin  "A masterpiece of spiritual insight and practical wisdom, Forgiving Mother is sure to lift readers out of the darkness of the past and into a present suffused with light, love, and healing. — Lisa Mladinich, author, True Radiance: Finding Grace in the Second Half of Life

This is a very different book. It's not your typical Marian read. I think Marg Fenelon did a very transparent, personal job of her story of abuse. I was expecting to get a lot more Mary! I would have liked to read this book decades ago when I was in the darkness of being wounded by my mom. I have since then received a wonderful grace from our God to love her unconditionally.

A must have book, for those struggling, with forgiving an abusive parent.

I purchased this book for a friend, and while waiting for it to arrive took advantage of the Kindle version (offered for an additional 99 cents), and read the first 9 chapters that night. The first thing I noted was that a story about the author's first grade teacher, told in the introduction, was repeated a few pages later in the first chapter; almost as if the introduction was optional. That story was about the teacher introducing the author to a picture of Mary which has been crucial to her healing ever since. The image, "Mary Thrice Admirable," is referred to frequently in the rest of the book. Naturally I wanted to see it! Since there were no pictures in my Kindle version, I waited impatiently for the paperback to arrive, so I could see this much-loved image of Mary. To my surprise, there are no pictures in the hard copy either! The image -- a key part of the story -- is nowhere! (I was able to find it on the internet, of course.)Since I read the book a week ago I have been more aware of Mary’s presence in my life. The prayer of St. Louis de Montfort that the author learned from Mother Teresa, “Mary, Mother of Jesus, please be a mother to me now," has become a prayer that brings me peace.I did not have an abusive mother, but in reading this book I recognized some of the behaviors of *her* mother -- my grandmother. I am now more aware of why my mother sometimes reacted as she did, and grateful that she has worked so conscientiously *not* to repeat that poor treatment with us.This novena will be for the intention of healing for my mom.Thank you, Mrs. Fenelon.

Well written, emotional, and personal. I feel a closeness to the Blessed Mother and this book helped me come even closer. It also helped me look at my relationship (or lack there of) with my own mother in a new way. I don’t know that I’m ready to reconnect yet but I am definitely able to view her in a different way after reading this book. Highly recommended.

Wonderful, prayerful insight into overcoming the grief of human relationships and finding comfort in the faith and the saints.

Very moving story of Mary's redeeming love in a little girl's life and great suggestions for others.

Marge Fenelon herself has said this is the book she was born to write, and that comes across in this book. In quite a vulnerable way, Marge shares her own wounds with the reader and how with the help of Mary, she was able to experience God's healing, and ultimate reconciliation with her mother before death. Nine chapters followed by nine days of prayer, allows the reader to embark on a journey of healing. The book definitely won't be a one-time read, but in the quest for healing and peace, a reader might pray the novena multiple times, allowing God to heal different areas each time.I read Marge's books in the days following my own mother's death and it stirred within me many different emotions, recalling memories of the past in which I needed healing. This book definitely helped me to cope, mourn, and grieve, but most importantly seek healing in a mother-son relationship that was not the best. I am certain that Marge's book helped me in those days. While crafted for a person seeking healing, especially around a mother wound, the book's principles could be helpful in coming to forgive others in our life, be it family or friends. In the talks I give around the country on the Blessed Mother, I have referenced Marge's book in each talk because I believe she has unlocked the Marian key to forgiveness in this text! What are you waiting for? Buy it, read it, pray it!

Marge writes a beautiful book outlining her painful childhood and hurt by her abusive mother, and how she looked to Mary, the Mother of God, to help find healing and her forgive her own mother. Instead of turning away from God, Fenelon shows us how to turn towards Him by looking towards His Mother. I did not grow up in an abusive home, but I found new understanding for those who do, and now I know more of how to help my friends who were abused by others.I can see this book being used to bring healing and peace to those who are living with the pain of the failures of their own mothers, or even any abuser. Many times, those who are broken turn away from God, fall into alcohol or drug abuse, are abusive to their own children or are depressed and have many of their own failed relationships. They just don't know how to connect with others in a loving way. Our Lord is always looking to call us to Him, and He gave us His own Blessed Mother to help lead us to her Son. She can show you how to love again and make peace with abuses that happened in the past. She'll help you move forward and heal those relationships by not falling into the same abusive trappings. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to forgive, or even for those who want to understand how to help someone who might be dealing with an abusive past.Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us!
