This is much more than a well-written account of a sojourner's brief passage through some of the wildest country in the lower 48. A wonderfully written, thought-provoking tribute to the increasingly threatened American Wilderness. Highly recommended.

Thought-provoking...educational...inspiring...entertaining. I'm running out of superlatives here. Burritt's tale of his journey through the Yellowstone ecosystem is much more than a travel guide--it's a challenging look at what's important in our lives and what we need to protect. After reading Outside Ourselves cover-to-cover in two days, I'm already looking forward to rereading it to see what I missed the first time.

A thoughtful journey with the author and his girlfriend as they take a summer off to backpack south to north through the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Starting at the southernmost entrance to the Wind Rivers, the author journeys through the Absarokas, Yellowstone, and the Beartooths on his end point in Gardiner. As a seasonal worker for the Forest Service, Burritt is familiar with the ecosystem. But this book isn't about his trials and tribulations, not a travel guide. Burritt muses on what wilderness is, overcrowding in the backcountry, along with thoughts about wildness and how to preserve it. Burritt treats you to not only his outward journey into this most wild, remote acres in the lower 48, but also his inner journey and musings along the way. A wonderful read.

Chances are that you will only find praise for this latest book about RUSH from Martin Popoff. He does a great job of giving you the facts & nostalgia of a great band who's career is now well into it's 4th decade. This is also much more than a re-write of his earlier work "Contents Under Pressure", so it will please all who take the time to read its pages...And this is where the short-coming of the book actually lies...The print itself is often a very real pain to read when it is printed in white, & then printed over photographs etc etc. The print size is also too small for my liking, so you end up at times putting the book down out of frustration than satisfaction.Definitely needs to be read during daylight hours, & not by a bed-side lamp folks !!!Other than this irritating matter, the book is full of many great photographs, nostalgic items, & as always, with reviews about albums that will leave you wanting to debate matters with the author in disagreement, but that's always been the thing about RUSH, so somethings will never change !Over-all, a great book, & made with the very best quality paper, so like RUSH themselves, it's made to last.Enjoy.

Awesome illustrated history book brings back so many memories for this 45 year-long Rush fan! This is full of stuff that I'd forgotten about!This isn't a biography but rather a feel good table book. No mention of the sad or difficult challenges along the way.Very sad to see Rush (my all-time favorite band who I first saw in 1974) come to an end. It is admirable that they wish to perform at their peak or not at all. Geddy's been reaching for those high notes when he sings material from their earlier days, Neil cannot maintain the level of athleticism required for his unparalleled drumming and percussion style, and I've heard Alex has arthritis that makes playing pretty painful.This book will help keep memories from the heyday of Rush close at hand!

I have been a Rush fan since 1978 and own all their music and concert DVD releases (including more than 1 copy of each music release).I did enjoy this book but found it a very tedious read. It also lacked any real information about the band members themselves. Good information on the background of individual albums and their recording processes. There are lots of album reviews, band pictures, and pictures of band collectibles I had not seen before.However, if you are looking for more than the usual fanboy rah-rah information, might I suggest the movie biopic "Beyond The Lighted Stage." Great stuff there from the band members themselves.

I absolutely love Rush and have been trying to find a book about them for a while. This one could be considered coffee table quality. It covers all their albums up to Clockwork Angels, with those in the music industry writing each chapter. Each album is discussed and insight is given to the trio. It is like having Beyond The Lighted Stage in book form, so to speak, although the two are unrelated. If you enjoy Rush, you will probably enjoy this book.

I'm a huge RUSH fan and this book has many great photos and a lot of info. I even discovered tidbits and pics I have never heard or seen before. Note: The "R-U-S-H" on the cover is a cut out so the front book cover is not very sturdy and easy to bend or fold. Best to read on a flat surface.

As a diehard hard fan,I grew up with these guys in the 70's.Living in upstate NY,Rush toured through here nearly every year,and we never missed a show.This book is an absolute superior history of the band.Gotta be in your library if you are a fan.Martin Popoff did an excellent job here,the book is laid out in chronological order with great background and photos.Heck,the cover alone is worth the price.

As a long time Rush fan this book is great! Lots of photos of everything Rush related. I even found a photo of a ticket stub to an Oklahoma City concert that I went to when I was 17 years old.One of the things I always enjoy is reading about the creative processes of the bands. This book doesn't disappoint... you find yourself in the room as songs are written and as the process of recording them takes place.Even though this book is a few years old it is well worth purchasing for the Rush fan and those wanting to learn about them.

Pretty good book covering the albums and music, does not delve very deeply into the guys.But the main text is in a size 6 or possibly smaller font, and very light against the pictures and background (which are quite interesting).Makes for a difficult reading experience.

I kind of got this book because it pisssed off Piece Pizzera a bit and sometimes they need to be taken down a peg (though they do make great pizza).However, after looking through the book, Steve has no idea what he is talking about. He breaks down pizza into different categories and then repeats the same places a couple of times.As expected Piece did not make the list, but based on some of the places he picked, that was done to be vindictive, not because he doesn’t like their pizza. He put Jett’s on the list. A freakin chain!!!Speaking of Jett’s, the page right after his glowing review talk about how the “deep dish houses” downtown are overrated and don’t care about their craft. Has he been to Jett’s? They don’t care. Their main competition is Little Caesar’s. I actually like Jett’s occasionally, but to put it in the same level as local and family owned businesses makes him lose all his credibility.Also, who is this book written for? Suburbanites scared that if they enter into the city, they are going to get shot? Why not pick more obscure and far away suburbs? I was surprised not to see Rockford on the list.I really wanted to give this book a chance. However, it has come to me that the Hungry Hound really is a hack. The pictures are great, but the reviews are garbage.Use Yelp instead

All encompassing book on Chicago pizza. It would be fun to use it as a guide to trying all 101 pizzerias in the Chicagoland area. Who doesn't love pizza and this is the perfect gift for a pizza lover, regardless of where you live.

I like that this was written by a non Chicagoan so his opinion isn't clouded by "PIGUE" (Pizza I Grew Up Eating)I'm going to use this as a guide to try some places I might have driven by otherwise.

This is a fantastic book and a must-read for anyone who enjoys pizza and wants to learn all about the different styles. I always thought Chicago was just a deep-dish town, but Steve brilliantly debunks that myth. I cannot wait for my next trip to Chicago and try some of these suggested places.

Absolutely LOVE this book! I've lived in Chicago my whole life and have tried what I thought was a good amount of pizza places around the city... I was woefully wrong. This book has great reviews of places I'd never even heard of that I've now tried and love! Couldn't recommend this more for anyone who loves pizza! Great as a gift for a Chicago pizza lover too!

If your child has already been diagnosed with migraines, it is still a wonderful reference book.

I literally just completed an inpatient treatment program provided by the Diamond Headache Clinic in Chicago. They were very helpful in reducing the severity of my 21+ year daily chronic headache/migraine. This clinic was founded by Dr. Seymour Diamond. My son also suffers from bad migraines. Most neurologists have been hesitant to treat him because if his age. The Diamond Headache Clinic work with children without hesitation. The doctors here and this book have a wealth of information. I am anxious to apply some of the things I learned there, such as biofeedback and low tyramine diet, with my son.

Dr, Diamond has put together a book full good information relating to childhood headaches. It seems the book is targeted at other Doctors as much as it is for parents. Overall this book was helpful in learning about my daughters migrains but the diary section at the end was a little hard to use. Through my research to help my daughters I found a book that works great and is simple for parent and child to use. The title is "The Headache Detective" by John Ricker. It's a headache workbook designed for children that is easy to follow. It is prabably a little more helpful pinpointing what is causing your child's headache than Dr Diamond's book. In truth, there are better "how-to" books out there, but if you have no experience or confidence in caring for houseplants/patio plants AND you need ideas for locations and displays, then you will get a lot out of this book. It doesn't have a ton of info, but maybe that's better for some people. I was hoping for a little bit more from it, so was slightly disappointed, but I think someone who is just starting to research plant care would probably be quite satisfied. There's also plenty of inspiring photos of the very creative set ups the authors have come up with--and clearly most of these methods work, or at least have worked for the author over years and months. This is in contrast to a lot of the "idea" posts you see on websites, pinterest, instagram--even a lot of magazines, where someone came up with an idea, tried it out and wrote about it in the span of a week. How the plants in such designs hold up over time, or how the structures last or what upkeep is required is left out of the picture, entirely (see: the majority of terrarium how-to's). In contrast, many--if not all--of the window box ideas described in this book were tried out by the authors and are sure to keep most plants alive and be easy enough to maintain. So, yeah, it's a decent book.

PIctures and directions are simple to understand

While reading the adorable new book, How to Window Box, Small-Space Plants to Grow Indoors or Out by Clarkson Potter designed, certainly, with me in mind, I couldn’t help but think about my mother. No, she was not a gardener, but she did make Easter baskets for every attendee at her annual Easter brunch. She took a month or more to put these baskets together, each with a different theme based upon the interests of the recipient. As I held this book in my hand I couldn’t help but think what a wonderful theme window box gardening would be for an Easter basket. This book, a bag of potting soil, some liquid fertilizer, a few plants, not to mention a fairy garden accessory or two, and you have a wonderful gift for your green-thumbed friend. But I digress.If you, like me, no longer garden on a grand scale, this book is for you. Talk about inspirational! The pictures alone will have you champing at the bit to get outdoors and start gardening, but the information is the most valuable aspect of this book, and there is plenty, but I am getting ahead of myself. The book provides a nice introduction to window box gardening, and then guides you step-by-step through the process. It provides you with a wide variety of theme gardens, one or more of which will no doubt tickle your fancy. I’m not going to list them all, but some of them include The Sandbox, The Herb Garden, The Detox Box, Edible Petals, The Jungle Box, The Salad Bar, and The Window Bog. Intriguing? I have to tell you, every one of the window boxes in this book intrigue me. Each one mentioned is not only thoroughly described, but there is a nice, easy-to-read chart on the page that will provide a quick guide to creating your own box. It will suggest a location, provide information on recommended light, window, soil, how much you need to water and fertilize, and even give you ideas for topping the box in order to make it look pretty.Resources are provided in the back to help you get started, and there is also adequate information to allow you to customize your window box to your own interests and needs. Should you have difficulties (Heaven forbid!), there is a nice section on troubleshooting.If you like to garden like I do, or if you have a friend who does, pick up a copy of this book. I like the idea of bringing greenery inside so when I got this book, I thought it would be a fun read.With my little background, I found this book to be very informative. This book starts off with a nice introduction about plants. This included a basic overview of the type of plants, some vocabulary and some other tips about plants.After reading the introduction, this book is broken down into types of plants you can grow. In each section, there are some details, tips, and tricks specific to the plants to keep them alive and growing well.I found this book to be a great start if you are looking for some ideas and ways to get started. Once you find the type you want, I would suggest using this book to get started and then looking on the internet for long-term care ideas.Overall this book is a great starting point for adding nice greens to your home.I received this book in exchange for an honest opinion.
